The hotel is a renowned country residence and the owners live on-site. It boasts an excellent restaurant and bar popular with tourists and the locals. A few steps from your doorstep and you are straight out to wonderful woodland walks of the Forge Valley Woods National Nature Reserve. The River Derwent meanders down through the trees where you’ll see an abundance of wildlife. There are lots of different trails to take advantage of, from a leisurely walk to more strenuous hikes, so great for outdoor enthusiasts or those with dogs.

The cottage is very spacious and was once the coach house for the local inn. The large kitchen/living area has French doors that lead out to the enclosed, lawned garden making it ideal for children and pets.

East Ayton is a great base to see what York has to offer, from the Yorkshire Wolds with its rolling hills made famous by the artist David Hockney, to the wonderful North York Moors National Park. The rugged east coast is just 20 minutes away with Scarborough, Filey and Flamborough Head all a short drive.

The market towns of Pickering and Malton are well worth a visit. Pickering is the home to the North York Moors steam railway, where you can watch the steam trains as they chug along and have a memorable train journey across the moors to Whitby.

For those of you with children, there’s Go Ape in the Dalby Forest, a high rope adventure park set high up in the trees. The forest has over 8,000 acres of trails for both hikers and mountain bikers, from runs for beginners to the more challenging ‘world cup’ route, a firm favourite with enthusiasts. Beach 5 miles. Shop 400 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
