.A typically old Whitby fisherman's cottage with spiral staircases and low bulkheads. Set over four floors, each room is thoughtfully furnished and equipped. Enter the sitting room, with its inglenook fireplace and beamed ceiling, and be transported back in time. The space benefits from comfortable seating and quality soft furnishings; there are quirky decorative touches throughout which give a nod to Whitby’s illustrious maritime heritage. The TV/DVD comes with a selection of films and books – perfect for a chilled out evening’s entertainment after a busy day.
To the lower ground floor is a bright, homely kitchen with dining area. Keep the cook company over pre-dinner drinks and nibbles!
The first floor twin room is decorated in restful, muted hues with a pleasant view over the yard. There is also a stylish bathroom with bath, separate shower, basin and WC.
Moving upstairs, the second floor master double bedroom is nestled under gorgeous exposed beams – a cosy and romantic hideaway for any couple.
Whitby oozes history and it is very pleasurable simply to meander through the cobbled streets that lead to your door, perhaps calling in at one of the tea rooms for a pot of Yorkshire tea. The Captain Cook Memorial Museum is situated nearby, housed in the same residence where Cook lived as an apprentice. Everyone loves traditional fish and chips and Whitby’s are some of the finest in the world – you really are spoilt for choice.
The heritage coast has may fine sandy beaches to discover, whether you are looking for traditional family beach fun or miles of unspoilt clifftop walks. Further inland, the splendid North York Moors await exploration.
Lavender Cottage is a homely retreat in close proximity to the harbour and beach, with plenty of options for sightseeing further afield.
The ancient fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire, with its superb coastline and close proximity to the spectacular North York Moors. Whitby is a charming and atmospheric town of winding streets and hidden alleys, with a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and of course the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps.
