Ideal for touring the North Yorkshire area. The only reason I docked a point was because its not really situated in idyllic countryside. Its situated directly off the very busy A64, so traffic noise is constant. Views of the countryside at the back are obscured by fences and hedges. It will be the perfect place for lots of people, but we were expecting a very rural, quiet position.

It would definitely be a problem for the elderly or anyone who can't walk to far plus carry cases as they can't be wheeled as pathway is so deeply shingled. Entering property it looked lovely, we had a look around & then sat down for a cuppa after our long journey. While having cuppa we browsed through the guest books, there were a few comments on a musty smell in the en suite ! As we hadn't been in there yet we went to see, there was definitely a damp foisty smell but also a bad smell of drains/sewers. Hubby investigated (he is a builder)to find where smell was coming from, the sewer pipe coming from toilet hasn't been sealed so the smells are coming back up the pipe ! Hubby temporarily put rolled up toilet paper around the gap to stop any smells & it definitely served the purpose for the duration of our stay. Whilst investigating around toilet he also found there was a leaking pipe behind toilet which would probably account for the foisty smell, we cleaned up around it & put a container under which we emptied regularly & that also stopped the smells. We did advise owners of these issues so they are aware these things need sorting. They offered us 2 free nights in the future as long as property isnt already booked. This would be very good but it is rather a long way to go for 2 nights plus we have pets to organise so probably won't get to benefit from this offer! WiFi was definitely a problem which we understand it can be in such areas, but the WiFi is also on a data package & once we had sorted getting on the WiFi it was good until it ran out after only 2 evenings use. We contacted the owner & she put more data on for us but the same thing happened so we had no WiFi from early Tuesday evening as no more could be added. This should also be stated in the listing as limited WiFi! The cottage is lovely & cosy with a super comfy bed. There is everything you need for your stay, we choose to eat out so didnt use much. We lived in the conservatory it was lovely watching the lovely sunsets we also saw a fox & her 2 cubs & a Roe deer feeding her 3 fawns in the field behind from the conservatory windows. The A64 is bit of a problem to get out on to, it's bad enough if you're going left but if you need to turn right it's terrible as not many will give way so you can get out.We would return to this lovely bungalow (as long as the issues listed were sorted) as it's very central for York & within easy distance of The Yorshire moors or coast with just over 1hrs journey away.
