In search of somewhere for rest and relaxation? Interested in getting out and about? In either case you will find that this converted steading is the ideal base. This cosy cottage is set in beautiful countryside halfway between the splendid independent shops of Castle Douglas, known locally as 'The Food Town' and the Artists Town of Kirkcudbright, with its busy harbour and fishing fleet. In a peaceful though not remote location, easily accessed, and well situated for exploring Galloway's hills, forests and interesting coast on foot, on a bike or by car. There is an ample private garden, occasionally overlooked by sheep!
There are plentiful opportunities to explore the local area including the historic Broughton House & Garden in Kirkcudbright which is owned by the National Trust for Scotland. Leisure pursuits in the area include plentiful golfing opportunities including 18 hole courses at Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright with many other 18 hole and 9 hole golf courses available nearby including the Links Championship course at Southerness. The Forestry Commission 7Stanes Mountain Bike Trails are located throughout the region with the nearest being at Dalbeattie Forest about a 20 minute drive away a little further afield are the trails in the Galloway Forest Park (Britain's first designated Dark Sky Park). There are plethoras of walking opportunities within a short drive including beach, cliff top, forrest and for those who seek something more strenuous, hill walks. Course and sea fishing are readily available throughout the area.
In autumn and winter large numbers of the Svalbard population of barnacle geese arrive at the rspb Mersehead Reserve on the Solway Coast giving an unrivalled chance to see these amazing birds and other winter visitors - more information at : http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/m/mersehead/index.aspx . The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust Centre at Caerlaverock, near Dumfries is also well worth a visit.
For the young at heart (and not so young) a visit to Cream O'Galloway should be considered with its adventure playground for all ages, farm tours, ice cream (you can have a go at making your own), pond dipping and wildlife walks are just a taster of what is available. The Cocoa Bean Factory is a must for all young chocoholics, where chocolate workshops are held daily, indoor and outdoor play areas, a cafe and a shop are on offer. For older children and adults, Galloway Activity Centre offers many water based activities including Sailing and Kayaking, land based activities are also offered. Laggan Outdoor offers activities including one of the longest Zip Wires in Europe, Segway Adventure tours, Mountain Balling and Clay Pigeon Shooting to name a few.

"We had a fantastic weekend. We could not fault the place. The boys aged 4 and 10 loved the jacuzzi and said they wanted to live here forever, to be honest we do too. The beds were very comfortable, we didn't want to get out. The fireplace was gorgeous." Fraser, Amanda, Mark and Zak, East Kilbride.

"Just right for our family, with plenty of space for everyone. Lazy mornings and great places to visit. Threave Castle and Rockcliffe beach were the highlights. Saw the buck, doe and fawn a couple of times, early morning, crossing the single track road. Am sure we'll be back." Dyson, Jonas and Falaga's families. Bradford and Middlesborough
