When the weather is fine the garden really is a joy with its views over the town to Wigtown Bay in the distance.  Whithorn in the Machars Peninsula is a small rural town and has a few convenience shops, a recently refurbished pub and restaurant and in recent years has gained a reputation as a centre for artists and crafts people and hosts an annual Arts & Crafts Trail which showcases a wide range of work at various venues throughout the town. 

The area surrounding Brae Cottage is breath-taking, from the rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches, to inland The Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest forest park with 300 square miles of wild beauty and where you will find the world renowned 7Stanes Mountain bike trail at Kirroughtree.  A short 5-minute drive from Brae Cottage will take you to the Isle of Whitho. . .
