About this property

Resting in the seaside village of Cromarty, Black Isle in the Highlands of Scotland, this convenient spot provides everything you will need for the perfect family holiday, with easy access to the beach, and a quaint village to explore. Seashell Cottage is a traditional stone-built Scottish cottage and a wonderful base for your Highland adventure.

Travel through a quaint seaside town and feel the fresh sea breeze in your hair as you approach this beautiful little property, parking close to the front door, painted an eye-catching red.

When you have unpacked your bags and need a rest after your journey, seek out the homely sitting room, filled with rugs, blankets, wooden furniture, and stylish sofas all filling the room with the essence of a seaside cottage, noting that there is also a selection of books to peruse and a woodburning stove to warm your feet as you recline with a coffee. When stomachs start to rumble, family mealtimes will be convenient and social with an airy kitchen, sporting all of the home comforts desired to cook up a storm and present it on the central dining table. Seaside themes can be discovered throughout this beautiful property, including local artwork, sculptures, real seashells, and pale blue and aqua hues accompany the bedrooms in relaxing decor, with the king-size room offering subtle wallpaper and a writing desk with a view to the village outside, and the twin room is fitted with a fireplace (not in use), model boats and wonderful blue bedding, so in keeping with the seaside position of the property that you can almost smell the sea breeze.

Outside, a small enclosed sitting area offers a platform for morning coffee, with a view to the village as you plan your day.

The beauty and traditional architecture of the cottage continues into the picturesque village of Cromarty, offering a wealth of attractions to fill your days with, beginning with the shops and stores of the village itself, selling local crafts and produce, including a spectacular bakery, or why not indulge in local culture and heritage with a trip to the Old Courthouse Museum? Also available from the bay are boat trips, where you might be lucky enough to spy dolphins jumping in the clear blue sea, as well as exploring the wonderful shingle and sandy bays on offer, perfect for picnics, walks and watersports. If you plan to head out of the village, then the next large town is Inverness, offering a variety of activities from Inverness Museum Art Gallery and, a golf course and a variety of restaurants, bars and shops to peruse at your leisure. With so much to see, and a beautiful seaside atmosphere, a stay at Seashell Cottage will make the perfect getaway for you and your family.

Cromarty, poised on the tip of the Black Isle at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth, is the Highlands' best preserved historic town. It is a jewel, rich in history, folklore, striking architecture, and offers grand views of seven counties from the headland above it. But Cromarty is more than just an 18th century town. For modern travellers and holidaymakers it provides a wealth of attractions: sandy beaches, unusual architecture, Bottlenose Dolphins, eating places, a multi-award winning museum, beautiful countryside, wildlife, and bird reserves of international importance, to name but a few. Being only a 30 minute drive from Inverness, the 'Capital of the Highlands', Cromarty combines the advantages of its convenience as a base from which to travel throughout the Highlands, with an apparent detachment from the mainstream tourist routes, giving the best of both worlds.

Very comfortable, clean and convenient for local services.

The cottage could have been a bit cleaner, but was acceptable. It was very cosy and everything was provided for.

At the tip of land between the Moray and Cromarty firths, it is a warren of lanes and vennels, many leading to the shore, with freshly painted cottages and a variety of shops, a couple of cafes, two pubs and a cinema. The shore displays the industrial nature of this region which adds rather than detracts from the place. There is also a sandy bucket & spade kind of beach. Seashell cottage: well placed near bus stop (for Inverness), food store and shore. Attractively if traditionally decorated and furnished, it is clean, warm and well equipped. Sitting room: definitely the nicest room - cosy, comfortable, matching fittings (incl matching light bulbs) give it a loved & welcoming feeling. TV set is not WiFi enabled but we found Netflix via the dvd player (no instructions for use of this or anything else). Downstairs loo: cramped but functional. Kitchen: well equipped. Large table & old dresser. But overall showing its age plus oversize microwave took up much of the worktop space. Many items in need of a refresh (rusty grater, ironing board cover disintegrating etc). Double oven cooker but main oven not functioning. Vacuum cleaner & broom rather mucky, no mop & bucket. No fire blanket (believe this a requirement for holiday lets). Twin bedroom: light, airy, spacious but we didn't use. Bathroom: Good supply of hot water, but dominated by large roll top bath so shower cubicle the smallest possible - bit like a glass sentry box. 3 pin socket under basin was a surprise. An electric towel warmer/extra towels would be welcome. Bath did not drain properly. Main bedroom: roomy, bed comfortable enough though duvet very lightweight (provide an extra blanket?). Plenty of drawer space. A second large pillow so two people can sit up in bed comfortably, more generous provision of decent hangers (had to retrieve from lobby/other bedroom & we travel light!), a light at the bedroom mirror, would all have been welcome. There was a hairdryer & t-towels (not listed) and some basics for cooking (also not listed). Bit mean with the loo rolls and no kitchen towel. Seashell cottage is a pleasant, comfortable base for a stay in Cromarty but we thought, from the branding, that LHH properties would be a cut above the rest with a better quality & more generous offer; it was disappointing to find this was not so.
