Built almost 200 years ago to guide ships into the Caledonian Canal, the cosy Bona Lighthouse Stables (attached to the iconic Bona Lighthouse) is the perfect, luxury base camp for couples to explore the Great Glen Way. Hidden down the end of a long, private road, you can completely escape from the outside world and reconnect with your nearest and dearest.
Overlooking the waters of Loch Ness and set on the banks of the Caledonian Canal, Bona Lighthouse Stables, one of two holiday cottages in the historic building, offers breathtaking scenery and serenity amidst the majesty of the Great Glen. Sleeping two and perfect for a romantic retreat, the Stables features a double bedroom, a stunning bathroom with deep bubbly tub, a spacious open-plan lounge (complete with roaring log-burning fire) and a gorgeous little kitchen. The glass-fronted lounge is the focal point of the cottage, and is the ideal spot to cuddle up and while away the hours gazing on the inky blue waters of the loch in search of Nessie.
Outside, the large courtyard is ideal for a canalside barbeque or picnic, with the garden leading down to a pebble beach on the shores of Loch Ness. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the resident red deer that likes to snooze in the hedgerow and nibble on the grass!
Ideally situated to explore the rest of the Caledonian Canal, Bona Lighthouse Stables is just 20 minutes from the majestic Urquhart Castle and the powerful Divach Waterfalls, and only 45 minutes from the bustling Fort Augustus with it's spectacular tiered lochs. However, the real treat has to be the driving route along the edge of Loch Ness, which luckily is dotted with viewing points ready for spontaneous photo shoots! The towering pine trees, intense forests and pristine waters are truly breath-taking, setting the scene for true Highland adventure. Heading around the South side of Loch Ness, guests can find the famous Dores Inn, which offers it's own shingle beach, woodland trails and delicious, homemade dishes, just 25 minutes away.
