Situated in the heart of Strathyre village, Balvaig Cottage retains its Victorian charm whilst offering all the home comforts for a relaxing holiday. This traditional, detached, red sandstone property dates back to 1897 and features a fitted kitchen and two wood burners. There is excellent internet connectivity and a 40" Freeview TV with Now TV movies package, as well as a DVD player via the Xbox 360, which also includes a selection of games. Upstairs the master bedroom has a kingsize bed and original fireplace, whilst the generous twin bedroom has built-in wardrobe space and window seat.

The property sits in half an acre of well-maintained garden, offering space for children to play and explore, and to sit and enjoy the views towards Glen Ample and watch the birdlife.

The village is well-served by the shop opposite offering all the basics including daily newspapers. The local inn a few yards along the road is the social hub of the village. It offers a warm welcome to all, including children and dogs, and has a good selection of pub grub and guest ales. The café at the south end of the village is well worth a visit and the two hotels are open to non-residents for meals and refreshments.

The property is ideally located to explore the surrounding Trossachs National Park and beyond by foot, bike or car. The Sustran UK Route 7 runs past the car park opposite and provides a dedicated cycleway and footpath to Callander to the south and Glenogle and Killin to the north, following the route of the old Callander and Oban railway. Step through the gate at the bottom of the garden and you are on the Rob Roy Way, the long distance footpath following many of the routes used by the notorious outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor in the 17th and 18th centuries. For the more adventurous, some of Scotland’s best hill walking is within easy reach including the munros Stuc a Chroin, Ben Vorlich and Ben Lawyers. Loch Lubnaig, a mile south, and its tributary the Balvaig River, offer fishing and canoeing.

Local attractions include Rob Roy’s grave in the pretty village of Balquidder, 4 miles, the Falls of Leny, the bustling towns of Callander and Killin, and the Falls of Dochart 9 miles north. From the Trossachs Pier, 16 miles, daily steam ships cruise up and down Loch Katrine. Doune Castle, 17 miles, is a must for Monty Python fans, and 3 miles further on is the Argarty Red Kite Centre.

Further afield, Stirling, 25 miles, is dominated by the impressive castle and The Wallace Monument, whilst for rugged spectacular Scottish landscapes, Glencoe, an hour’s drive to the north, is hard to beat as well as offering skiing in winter. Glasgow, 50 miles, and Edinburgh, 60 miles, are served by excellent road connections making them easy destinations for day excursions. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.
