About this property

A cosy cabin-style cottage, tucked behind the owner’s home a short walk from the River Tawe, on the outskirts of the village of Ystradgynlais on the edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons). This cabin is an ideal base for a couple looking to explore the breathtaking mountains while being close to busy towns and a short drive from the sweeping sandy beaches of South Wales. Offering all ground floor accommodation, there is a light and airy bedroom leading from an open plan living area with a compact kitchenette, dining area and comfy seating where you can curl up and watch a film in the evening. The cabin also benefits from a garden room with a woodburner and seating, where you can relax with the dogs after a day spent walking the stunning mountain scenery that surrounds the village. The cottage has its own dedicated parking space leading into a small private garden and is entered via a series of four steps. Outside, you can sit in your own deceptively secluded garden and enjoy a morning cup of coffee. The River Tawe meanders through the valley from the mountains of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) towards Swansea Bay; there is so much open countryside to explore you may be spoilt for choice. The cottage is only five minutes from the National Cycle Network Route 43 that takes you on a leisurely traffic-free ride to the heart of Swansea along a picturesque route that uses a dismantled railway, Swansea Canal towpath and the banks of the River Tawe. You are ideally placed to take a trip to explore the stunning area known as Waterfall Country, less than 10 miles away, where beautiful gorges are peppered with waterfalls and why not take the chance to step behind the waters of Sgwd-yr-Eira? The area offers a huge selection of outdoor activities with all activity levels catered for, such as horse riding, paragliding, walking, cycling, gorge trekking, abseiling or kayaking. Explore the Showcaves of Wales at Dan-yr-Ogof, 6 miles away, or join one of the stargazing events to enjoy the only Dark Sky Reserve in Wales. Slightly further afield to the north you can explore the industrial heritage of the Big Pit and Blaenavon Iron works. To the south a whole different landscape opens up with Swansea Bay offering fabulous beaches, including Rhossili Bay beach, considered to be one of the world’s best beaches. A perfect base for couples to get away from the hustle and bustle, with fabulous days out exploring the mountain landscape, a short drive from the fantastic sandy beaches of South Wales.

Ystradgynlais is a former mining and industrial town in the Tawe Valley on the edge of the formidable Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons). The area is peppered with strong valley communities that benefit from the fabulous location and being easily accessible, with the mountains rising into the extensive Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) and a myriad of outdoor activities, perfect countryside for walking and cycling with routes stretching away in all directions.

We really look forward to our stay here. Lots of walking in the day and the dog friendly pub and caffe in town are great. We love sitting by the log burner at night. We would recommend this stay to anyone.
