Overton-on-Dee is ideally located for day trips to North Wales, Cheshire, and Shropshire, thanks to its proximity to the English border and pleasant surroundings. This picturesque village, perched on a cliff above the meandering River Dee, is home to some excellent examples of architecture from the 18th century as well as a handful of stores, a fantastic restaurant, and a classic watering hole. Nearby are the nine Meres of Ellesmere, formed during the glacial period and today offering chances for sailing, fishing, birdwatching, and leisurely strolls. Ellesmere boasts a number of tourist attractions, including the Norman-era St. Mary's Church, as well as a wide variety of restaurants, shops, and bars (including a yearly beer festival).
