Nottingham is a fabulous city with historic links to Robin Hood and lace-making, bicycle and tobacco industries. Today it is a thriving, creative city bursting with a dynamic culture, castles, caves, boutique shops, restaurants and bars. Nottingham Castle has undergone a massive transformation and is known as the ‘Jewel in Nottingham’s Crown’. You will discover ancient inns, fine local ales, a subterranean cave network, modern art galleries, arts and crafts in the Lace Market and award winning tea rooms. Within easy reach are Sherwood Forest and Matlock and Bakewell of the Peak District.

Cobalt House boasts six sensational bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms bar one which enjoys a private bathroom. The rooms are opulent, showstopping and glamorous. Velvet is the name of the game again and you will discover giant velvet headboards in a variety of bold colours. The rooms are named after famous Nottingham folk. Watson is named after Fothergill Watson, the celebrated, prominent Victorian Nottingham architect, Lovelace after Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron, Booth after William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, Howitt after Thomas Cecil Howitt the architect who designed the house, Shepherd after Annie Shepherd, the famous suffragette and Hawksley after Thomas Hawkesley, an engineer who designed the country’s first high-pressure water system. Every room offers flexible sleeping arrangements with kingsize beds that can be set up as twins. You will sink into cloud-like beds and wake up rested and energised for a day exploring this wonderful city. The bedrooms all enjoy different striking colour schemes with bathrooms to match. The bathrooms are classy, sleek, immaculate and very stylish. The original ground floor safe and vault room has been turned into a romantic bathroom with a double step-in bath. You just need to make sure you have a chilled bottle of champagne to take with you! Fluffy bathrooms, slippers and luxury toiletries come with the rooms.

At the end of the day you can head for the roof terrace with its stunning views of the city, its indulgent hot tub and its gorgeous alfresco lounge area. It is just magical!

Cobalt House sits on a very smart street, moments from Nottingham’s castle. Nottingham offers visitors a long list of entertainment, a wonderful array of boutique shops, a fabulous fine dining scene and access to the lush green spaces of the Peak District and Sherwood Forest. Sitting on a rocky cliff presiding over the city, Nottingham Castle is an excellent tourist attraction. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is said to be England’s oldest inn and a visit for a local pint is a must. The National Justice Museum offers an insight into the crime, punishment and grisly history of the town. The city centre is mostly pedestrianised, making it ideal for shopping, sight-seeing and meandering. Fabulous exhibitions of contemporary art are shown in the Nottingham Contemporary gallery while Debbie Bryan’s studio offers heritage and modern arts and crafts in the Lace Market. For further entertainment, there is the Broadway cinema, crazy golf at the Lost City, gin tasting at the Malt Cross caves, concerts at Motorpoint Arena and there are no less than four theatres. Your tastebuds will be tingling at the city’s medley of fine dining restaurants including the Michelin starred Sat Bains. There are many events that the city hosts throughout the year too! Robin Hood tours take place all year round. Hockley and the Lace Market are the oldest areas in the city. The Lace Market produced intricate lace which put Nottingham on the fashion map long before the designer Paul Smith opened his first boutique in 1970. The grand red brick warehouses and factories are now home to creative businesses, trendy bars and restaurants. Hockley oozes bohemian charm and offers vintage clothing emporiums, second hand bookshops, bijoux boutiques, stylish hair salons, tattoo studios and a mix of quirky businesses.

Sherwood Forest is alive with nature, history and folklore. The home of Robin Hood, it is packed with stories about the country’s most famous outlaw and is important for the work of the rspb. It is a National Nature Reserve with four hundred and twenty hectares of precious woodland.  The visitor centre is managed by the rspb and their partners. The Robin Hood Festival attracts plenty of visitors who want to learn about woodland crafts, the history of Sherwood and conservation work. In peak periods, there are guides in traditional medieval costumes offering information to visitors.

You can easily head to the Peak District to discover enchanting valleys, high peaks and wonderful villages and towns. The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, based in Wirksworth, is Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway running to Duffield through a gorgeous unspoilt valley. The Wirksworth Heritage Centre tells the town’s story. Matlock and Matlock Bath are two towns with very different characters. While Matlock is a bustling commercial centre, Matlock Bath is a busy tourist town which developed around its warm springs that made it a popular spa in Victorian times. The towns are linked by the spectacular Derwent Gorge with its wonderful walking trails. Matlock grew up around the ancient stone bridge that crosses the Derwent. It hosts a market every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and a Farmer’s market on the third Saturday of the month, and has even more to offer.

Chatsworth House is renowed for its art, landscape and hospitality. It boasts an art collection that spans four thousand years from Roman and Egyptian sculpture, masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese to the work of outstanding modern artists including Lucian Freud and David Nash. There are over twenty five rooms to explore including the Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and a beautiful Sculpture Gallery. It boasts a Grade I listed house, stables, a one hundred a five acre garden, one thousand, eight hundred and twenty two acres of parkland, a farmyard and an adventure playground. It has been the home to sixteen generations of the Cavendish family for nearly five centuries. The estate was opened to the public in the 20th century by the 11th Duke and his wife Duchess Deborah.
