Lying deep within the sleepy village of High Lorton, you will find the lovely Grade II listed abode of Kent Cottage. Surrounded by the breath-taking scenery of Lake District National Park, this charming and traditional dwelling offers an inviting setting for a relaxing family holiday to Cumbria. Spend cold winter night’s in front of the beautiful woodburning stove as you gather with loved ones in the sitting room and enjoy a captivating movie on the TV. Cook up a storm in the pretty country-style kitchen and discover a sea of appliances such as a sleek electric oven and hob, to help you along the way. Admire the striking original fireplace and gorgeous wood flooring as you feast upon a delicious evening meal in the warm and welcoming ambiance of the dining room, cracking open a bottle of wine and raising a glass to making wonderful new memories with your nearest and dearest. The ground floor is also home to a useful utility room with a handy washer/dryer, and a cloakroom featuring both a basin and WC. Up on the first floor, guests can choose to stay in one of the three restful bedrooms including a spacious king-size with the benefit of an en-suite, a homely twin and a peaceful single. A bright and airy family bathroom sits just across the way and features both a roomy tub and an overhead shower, where guests can take their time to get ready for the day ahead whilst their towel keeps warm on the heated rail. Make the most of warm summer days with a hearty home-cooked breakfast out in the enclosed rear garden, as you embrace the refreshing countryside air. Grab your hiking boots and challenge yourself to a scenic hike up to the peak of Skiddaw Mountain, or travel slightly further afield for an awe-inspiring walk through Green Gable. Enjoy an animal encounter like never before at the nearby Alpacaly Ever After as you meet friendly alpacas and llamas, taking them on an exciting stroll through the luscious local landscapes. Spend the day at the National Trust owned Derwent Island House or head to Hope Park for a picturesque picnic. Lose yourself on a tour of Puzzling Place or soak up the local history at the Keswick Museum before a spot of lunch at one of the many local Cafés or tearooms. Outdoor enthusiasts should be sure to stop by the Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, and those travelling with young children will relish in a day at the Lake District Wildlife Park. With so many adventures sitting right on your doorstep, Kent Cottage is the ultimate base for an action-packed escape to Cumbria.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.

Minor improvements: Safety mat in en suite shower Facilities for separating recycling would be good Guests are meant to leave the wheelie bin out on Thursdays but it would be good if owner/cleaner could check this has been done so that there is at least some space in the wheelie bin for the new arrivals.

It is in the middle of nowhere which is part of the joy, but also the hassle. House was well equipped, clean and comfortable in the main although the mattress in the main master bedroom takes some getting used to. There is a slight damp smell on entering the house which settles once in for a while, to be expected given the age of the property and the weather patterns for the location.

The cottage’s garden is a great place to rest your weary feet, taking in the sights and sounds after a day’s walking.
