About this property

Nestled in the heart of Greystoke in Cumbria, The Lodge is a historic, detached cottage dating to 1868, and was once the gatehouse serving Greystoke Castle. A pet-friendly property with enclosed, secluded gardens, The Lodge is a wonderful base for families, friends, and couples to enjoy a rural retreat, providing off-road parking, woodburning stoves, spacious gardens, and contemporary facilities. Step inside to find a fully-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up home-cooked meals by the warmth of the rustic woodburning stove. The neighbouring conservatory has a dining table for four guests to catch up over an evening meal with garden views. Alternatively, set up for alfresco dining in your enclosed garden; you'll have front and side gardens with lawn space for children to play, along with secure bike storage and established planting. Back inside, the sitting room welcomes you for relaxing afternoons in front of the woodburning stove and Smart TV, before retiring for the night. The first floor has a family shower room with a spacious walk-in shower, along with a king-size and a double bedroom. Greystoke village is a lovely base for your next staycation where you can stop for essentials at the Post Office shop, dine at The Boot & Shoe Inn, take a dip in the heated open air swimming pool. The bustling town of Penrith is close by for Penrith Castle, Penrith Golf Club, and the 13th-century ruins of Brougham Castle just on the outskirts, or perhaps make your way into the Lake District National Park. Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, Ullswater and Aira Force Waterfall, and the peaks of Skiddaw and Blencathra are all waiting to be explored. Be sure to in the market town of Keswick where Keswick Museum, Derwent Water Lake, and Castlerigg Stone Circle entice visitors from all over. You'll also be within easy reach of the North Pennines AONB, the historic city of Carlisle, and the Solway Coast AONB. For a historic cottage in Cumbria, look no further than The Lodge.

Greystoke is 5 miles from Penrith and has 17th-century dwellings. On the fringes of the Lake District National Park, 5 miles from Ullswater, this is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts. Keswick is the north Lake District's holiday centre and boasts several shops, restaurants, a theatre, museum, indoor climbing wall, and miniature golf. The village's 10th-century church, Penrith's castle, and Lowther Castle's ruins add to the area's history. Greystoke is close to the southern Lakes, Eden Valley, Pennines, Solway Coast, and Hadrian's Wall, so there's much to see and do.

The lodge was cold in places especially the Conservatory. The fires were nice but the basket of wood only lasted two days. Plenty of hot water. No radio available. I am a disabled person and thought we would get a quiet break but unfortunately this was not the case. In a property next door they have many hens and a very annoying Cockrell which is very vocal starting usually at 6am. The owner has been very unhelpful regarding this. If we had booked to stay on a farm then I would expect it but we did not. We will not use Sykes Cottages and stay at this property again

The Lodge was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. It’s a very good base for exploring the Northern Lakes. Greystoke village is lovely with plenty of dog walks from the doorstep of The Lodge, especially through the castle grounds. Would highly recommend staying at The Lodge. Alison

It's great for anyone with a dog - the garden is fenced off and the local pub couln't be more pet friendly.
