The village is known for its literary connections and is home to the Beatrix Potter Gallery, and William Wordsworth former school the historic Grammar School. Those who are looking for a relaxing break enjoying the scenic landscape of the region will enjoy taking one of the number of boat trips that sail on Lake Windermere, or perhaps paying a visit to the viewing platform at Claife Heights. Those looking for a more active break will be spoilt for choice, with plenty of local climbs and opportunities for water sports in the area.
