About this property

Springwell Cottage is a Grade II listed property located in Ambleside. This family and pet friendly property is ideally located for exploring all Ambleside has to offer with easy access to the Northern Lake District.

Head through the entrance hall into the two cosy sitting rooms, one boasting an open fire to enjoy on those cooler evenings after a day hiking. A few steps lead down to the dining area with woodburning stove and door leading out to the patio area. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need for a comfortable stay and a small breakfast table for those busy mornings before heading outdoors. To the first floor are the three spacious bedrooms including; 2 king-size and 1 twin. There’s also a modern bathroom and shower room.

Ambleside is a popular base for walking in the Lake District but also offers plenty of independent shops and restaurants to enjoy too if you’re looking for a more relaxed break. Take a walk into the centre of the village and visit the much-photographed Bridge House or take a walk up to Skelwith Force. From here the scenic Langdale Valley, Hawkshead and Coniston are all within easy driving distance.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Spacious but cozy at same time. Some low beams and doorways as you would expect and some labelled with warnings. Overall liked it very much. Kitchen well equipped but oven trays could do with an upgrade and no bread knife?. Not a dog owner myself, but if you are there is a dog basket and other accessories you might need such as water bowls etc. Handy location with shops a couple of minutes away. Pub opposite nice and no excess noise to worry about either in our experience. Would stay again

The most well equipped cottage we have been to.

We were left feeling very stressed and upset. Building works were ongoing all week to the rear of the property, with the whole access road being dug up - terrible noise, dirt and zero access from 8am. Our elderly dog couldn’t get upstairs to use the other door and so was a prisoner all week - and that door is straight onto a busy road with no pavement, so not really safe for our 3 children. Also, water running down the twin bedroom wall, by beds. Multiple calls, messages etc to Sykes. Photos/videos sent daily of both issues. No help at all, no response, no offer of any compensation. Works had been notified to owner prior to our visit (we found the letter). We should’ve been told and would have cancelled. Just left so upset and disappointed - really happy to get home.
