Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. ..We really enjoyed our week - even welcomed by the wood pigeons from home to wake us in the morning !. Only a couple of minor niggles - a few more kitchen utensils would have been useful... small knives for cutting vegetables, a colander for washing fruit and perhaps some handwash ( as is usual in most Sykes cottages.) We could have used a coffee percolator - but perhaps that is pushing it a bit....Nevertheless, excellent all round.

The only problem we had was we could not use the wi fi as the password did not work on three different devices and we did try everything capitals low case the only other thing the bath towels are to small as we had been before we took our own everything else was fine

Very good location, only a few minutes walk into Ambleside. Only negative we found was that the oven was very noisy ( a previous guest also commented on this issue). Enjoyed watching the birds on the feeder.
