About this property

Briardale Cottage is a charming early 20th century property, one of six pleasant terrace houses situ-ated in a quiet cul-de-sac yet close to Ambleside’s many attractions. A short stroll will take you to the centre of town for a romantic meal or a relaxing drink in the one of its many restaurants, bars and cafes. Enjoy browsing the shops, catch the latest film at one of the two excellent cinemas or enjoy a river walk through lovely Rothay Park. If you feel more adventurous take on one of the acclaimed Lakeland trails such as the walk to the top of Wansfell, Todd Crag or the more challenging Fairfield Horseshoe and all from your own door-step. After a busy day, relax with your favourite drink, dine alfresco or take time out to admire the lovely views in the peaceful communal gardens, where the table and chairs on your patio await. You will appreciate the peacefulness as there is no passing traffic. Arriving at the cottage, unload the car from your own parking space which sits right by your front door. Enter the enclosed porch entrance and store your outdoor wear. Sit on the leather sofa and feel the cosy warmth of the log burner set into the deep fireplace. Explore further to find your charming shaker style kitchen and dining area with cream units and wooden worktops. The lovely shared rear garden can be reached along a small hallway through the back door. This cottage also benefits from a convenient downstairs bathroom. Climb the stairs to discover your good-sized bedroom with king-size bed and fitted wardrobes with plenty of storage, as well as a contemporary bathroom where you can enjoy a refreshing shower. With so much adventure right on your doorstep, Briardale Cottage offers a wonderful base for your next family holiday to the Lake District.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The only reason I didn't leave a review in visitors book, I didn't have a pen! The only thing I would suggest, and this isn't a criticism, but a slip mat in the shower would be safer than not having one. My husband who has a knee injury didn't feel safe whilst showering. But like I say, it's a polite suggestion. Thank you for making this holiday such a memorable one, and the pub around the corner The Golden Rule is very welcoming! Great atmosphere! Kind regards Lorraine Miller

The garden is wonderful, but for what we paid, it wasn't the usual standard we are used to. The manuals just had instructions for items, nothing interesting to read at all. No plastic bags for the waste bin, thankfully we had brought some with us, no "welcome pack", toilet seat loose in bathroom. Just basic things were there really, we don't have this in other Sykes properties and we've stayed in a few. Also had to move cobwebs from three rooms. So a bit disappointing on arrival, but we made the best of it and enjoyed the Lakes, didn't ruin the holiday. One last point .. parking .. it states one small car in the description. I have a Fiesta, but with the other cars parked up which were 4x4s, was impossible to park, so we parked in the main car park down the road which was £38.50 for a week.
