Holiday Cottages in the Brecon Beacons

Home to mountains, lakes and castles, the Brecon Beacons offer a beautiful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Although National Parks are often well known as places for relaxing and appreciating the outdoors, this one is also known for its delicious local produce.

If you’re interested in Brecon Beacons’ produce, don’t miss out on the Penderyn Distillery or Pwll Mawr cheddar. There are also many pubs, restaurants and tea shops to choose from if you need refreshment on route. With minimal light pollution, the Brecon Beacons has an impressive nights sky. If you enjoy star gazing, this is the place to visit. Hopefully the night view will be preserved for years to come as this spot is also a designated International Dark Sky Reserve.

An attraction in the Brecon Beacons features in our guide Staycations and sustainability: A beginner's guide and where to go.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Paula - Verified booking

On arrival we (my husband and I) were welcomed by Caris who showed us around the lodge, which is absolutely immaculate.

Both Caris and Kerry are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We took along our two small dogs, which again were made very welcome and quickly made friends with the pugs and the beautiful Maremma sheepdog, Lexi, who although she towered over our little dogs, became a great favourite with them both! We only had one slight upset during the week we stayed there, and that was on Tuesday we returned to the lodge to find the family's French Bulldogs running loose, we were assured by Caris that they were all friendly, so we went through the gate with our two dogs. Unfortunately, both our dogs were attacked by two of the French Bulldogs, we quickly picked up our dogs, but one of the French Bulldogs continued to jump up,pulling on our dogs tail. Once Caris realised what was happening, she rounded her dogs up and took them back to their kennels. Both Kerry and Caris have apologised to us, which of course we accept, but unfortunately, since it happened, our smallest dog became very wary of going out of the lodge door, nervous of what dogs were around. We have been reassured that Kerry is going to make a seperate area that his dogs can exercise in future, so this will not happen to future guests, and it will not stop us staying there again.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Caner Bach Lodge while I was working in the nearby area.

I was immediately impressed by the friendliness and warmth of the owners, Carys and Kerry. They made us feel welcome from the moment I arrived, and even provided essentials such as bread, milk, and toiletries. The cottage itself was clean, cozy, and well-equipped. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was provided. The cottage is also located on a working farm, so I enjoyed seeing the animals and taking walks in the surrounding fields or nearby beaches. The cottage and owners are very dog-friendly, so I was able to bring my assistance dog along with me. Carys and Kerry's own dogs and other animals were kept separate from us, but they were happy to let us see them if we were interested. Luna? is a lovely big dog! Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Caner Bach Lodge. The owners are friendly and welcoming, the cottage is clean and cozy, and the location is perfect for those who want to relax and unwind in a rural setting. I would highly recommend Caner Bach Lodge to anyone looking for a dog-friendly cottage getaway in South Wales.

Your description of ‘there are dogs on site’ is in no way adequate to describe the fact that there are around fifteen dogs on site all running around free and barking.

They are mainly French Bulldogs and Pugs which are being bred from but there are also two very large dogs, a Maremma and a Tibetan Mastiff, both bred for guarding. Unfortunately a wandering sheep, a hiker or the local farmer haymaking is enough to send the Maremma rushing to the gate barking which sets all the others off. This was in no way a peaceful holiday and after witnessing two very nasty dog fights in which the whole pack attacked the newest addition we returned home after six days, although booked in for two weeks. I would advise anybody planning to take their own dog with them on holiday to think twice and if you go ahead then be extremely careful. I would add that my husband and I have had dogs all our lives and are totally confident around them, which is just as well.

Firstly it should be noted that the track to the property is only really suitable for 4x4 vehicles and should you not be a confident driver, then the extreme pot holes would have the ability to over turn your vehicle.

The property has a deep, approx 9” step down into the bedroom without any warning of this, it would have been easy to not have seen it and hurt yourself - this is not mentioned anywhere in the property description. There is literally just enough room to shuffle along the wall & the base of bed, you are not able to walk freely! A massive problem with woodlice in both the bathroom & bedroom, & when approaching the owners regarding this, we were simply told that they had the same issue in their own house (as this is acceptable!). Lack of kitchen utensils. Overall the property and the five star reviews are not true! Not an accurate description of the property, the amenities or the death trap of the track!

The Pheasant One was perfectly located for us to explore the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley, and Brecon Beacons - all of which were well within 45 minute's drive of the cottage.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, and have gone well above and beyond to make the cottage modern, inviting, and spotlessly clean. The property itself was very cosy and warm - particularly nice after a day out this time of year! The cottage was well equipped which gave us plenty of opportunity to cook and spend time in during the evenings. Our only recommendations would be to include a few more sharp knives for food preparation, and a HDMI cable might be good for the TV for anyone who want to stream via a computer. Ultimately, we would thoroughly recommend The Pheasant One for any couples wanting to stay in the area.
