About this property

Horders Cottage is centrally located with just a short walk into the bustling town of Hay-on-Wye, yet is in a secluded location away from it all, offering a peaceful retreat for couples looking for an idyllic stay in Hereford. This 16th-century cottage has been fully renovated but sympathetically accommodates all the mod-cons within a period property. There is a sumptuous en-suite with power shower and freestanding bath. The bedroom houses a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and small chaise longue. The contemporary, fitted kitchen has a fridge, oven, ideal for cooking up a storm with your significant other, with a handy washing machine also. There is a dedicated eating space where you can enjoy a romantic meal for two, as well as a plush seating area with characterful wooden roof beams and exposed brickwork, so why not relax and unwind at the end of the day in front of a Clearview fire? Outside, take in the breath-taking countryside views from the shared lawn, or enjoy morning coffee in the sunshine on the private patio as you plan the day ahead of you. Hay-on-Wye is a charming town offering a selection of amenities and attractions, as well as a convenience store for all of your holiday needs. Next to the property you will find a lovely pub, the Old Black Lion, ideal for enjoying a beverage in the sunshine. With the Offa’s Dyke path passing by the cottage, and rolling countryside surrounding it, there are plenty of opportunities to walk and breathe in the unpolluted air. Visit the historic Hay Castle, or explore the wonderful local attractions, including Arthur's Stone, Bronllys Castle, and Pwll y Wrach nature reserve. Try out adventure sports at Black Mountain Adventure, or head into the incredible scenery of the Bannau Brychein (Brecon Beacons) National Park, ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and birdwatching. Horders Cottage has everything you could need for a ‘get-away from it all’ break.

The ancient market town of Hay-on-Wye lies on the Welsh/English border, by the River Wye, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Renowned for its world-famous Hay Festival of Literature, the town is a popular destination for book-lovers and holidaymakers wishing to enjoy the leisure activities and beautiful scenery of the Wye Valley. The town has many book shops, antique shops, restaurants and cafes, and is surrounded by spectacular countryside which provides excellent walking, cycling, birdwatching, fishing and canoeing opportunities. There are also a wide variety of tourist attractions nearby; explore the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, The Three Castles Walk, Eastnor Castle, the Offa's Dyke Path, the Mortimer Trail and the lovely walk to Hergest Ridge, which provided inspiration for the music of both Elgar and Mike Oldfield. The epitome of picturesque England, the ancient city of Hereford lies 20 miles away, with its magnificent cathedral with famous chained library and Mappa Mundi, and a medieval bridge over the winding River Wye. Hay-on-Wye truly makes a supremely appealing year-round holiday destination.

The main attraction for us was the wood burning stove! Our hosts were attentive and thoughtful and could not have been more welcoming. Plenty to do and see in the immediate area and surroundings. A fabulous romantic weekend away!

Lovely bathroom, bath, shower, comfy bed and super warm with the wood burner. The property owners were really helpful, we had a wonderful time and hope to visit again in the future.
