About this property

This elegant, recently refurbished, holiday home is part of a magnificently converted Lakeland residence in Kelbarrow, just a pleasant stroll from Grasmere, Cumbria, with outstanding views of Grasmere on the approach to the property and from the master bedroom. Peaceful, secluded and a perfect combination of Victorian splendour and contemporary luxury, Kelbarrow is a wonderful base for a family of six’s break in the Lake District National Park. A sweeping private drive welcomes you on arrival, leading you to two convenient off-road parking spaces. A flagged porch takes you to the kitchen/diner with pristine white cabinetry beholding an array of integrated appliances, including an electric oven and a dishwasher; a budding chef’s dream! Once a delectable meal has been prepared here, tuck into it at the contemporary breakfast bar as you discuss your escapades in the Park. Progress to the tastefully furnished sitting room, where the warm glow of the woodburning stove warms you up and plush sofas offer you a seat in front of the TV. French doors lead out to the garden from here, where you can enjoy a stroll along the grounds or unwind on the bench with your favourite tipple in hand. The first of the bedrooms can be found on the ground floor, a charming double, whilst the latter bedrooms rest upstairs, one of which is a sumptuous king-size enjoying amazing views over Grasmere, and the other comprising a stylish twin. A well-presented bathroom can also be found on this floor, where soothing dips can be savoured in the bath with shower over. In the morning, be sure to head back out to the garden and savour an alfresco breakfast amidst those amazing views. Grasmere is a beautiful village, with tea rooms, interesting shops and several art galleries displaying the work of local artists - don't miss the Heaton Cooper Studio; additionally, there’s a small supermarket, local shops and bakeries, so you’re well-catered to here. The evidence of Grasmere's artistic history is all around, the poet William Wordsworth once lived in Grasmere, mused about the surrounding landscapes and completed his most famous work while living in the village; his former home can be visited nearby at Dove Cottage - the Wordsworth Museum. His gravestone is found in the church in the centre of the village, next door to the famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop – just follow your nose! For evening dining or special occasions, there are plenty of choices nearby in Grasmere village centre, try the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room, or the Michelin-starred Forest Side. Riverside and lakeside walks here are available in abundance, and the views from Loughrigg Terrace across Grasmere itself are sublime; further walks and watersports can be found in Rydal, Ambleside and Windermere, too. Choose Kelbarrow for a brilliant getaway with those who mean most.

The picturesque village of Grasmere, positioned in the centre of the Lake District National Park, is arguably best known as the home of William Wordsworth. The Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, where the Wilson family has been producing gingerbread for over 60 years, is a must-see on any trip to Grasmere. There are also a number of stores, bars, a 13th-century church, and Grasmere Lake in the village, as well as Grasmere Sports.

Near the town and all amenities as well as being able to do many walks straight from the property. Loads of wildlife including red squirrels & a badger that loved our marmite sandwiches that we put out every night. The property lacks natural daylight in the Kitchen and felt damp in the downstairs bedroom & lounge.and looked unloved from the exterior. All rooms lacked privacy as overlooked by neighbours and those viewing the property opposite. The garden is a good size but lacked anywhere to sit and enjoy an alfresco meal, apart from a narrow gravelled pathway which had outdoor seats but no table. The picnic bench had seen better days! Overall a great stay in a great location but room for improvement within the property itself.

The kitchen is incredibly well equipped- I would have been quite happy to spend a day in it baking had the lure of the outside not been so great! The views are sublime and the creatures who frequent the superbly maintained grounds are breathtaking. It was a privilege to have stayed in such a loved property; I guarantee that you will have an unforgettable experience if you stay at Kelbarrow!
