In a quiet side street, yet so handy for the buzz of Bowness & Windermere, and of course, the Lake, this lodge cottage has been beautifully refurbished to provide excellent holiday space for 4 people.
The living room is made for cosy evenings in by the wood-burner, with a bay window with views across the park. The well-equipped kitchen/ dining room has everything you need, and the bedrooms are chic and spacious. The front patio opens onto a park providing a great immediate extension to the green surroundings, a lovely place to enjoy a morning coffee or a sundowner. The modern bathroom is on the ground floor, and 2 spacious bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 double are on the first floor, with a second WC, and basin. This convenient bolt hole is a treat at any time of year.
Windermere village centre has a delightful busy traditional feel, with lots of shops, galleries and cafes, along with a superior Booths supermarket., traditional Lakeland pubs and restaurants. 2 miles down the road, you’ll discover the bustling, cosmopolitan Bowness-on-Windermere, with shops, bars, restaurants and of course the Lake itself. Here you enjoy lake cruises, which can take you up to Ambleside & Lakeside, hire boats and generally enjoy the fantastic views. Jump straight onto the main A591 to head north along to Ambleside, Grasmere & Keswick. You’ll also access the Langdale Valley and Coniston, and a scenic drive over the Kirkstone Pass, through the Troutbeck Valley drops you down to Ullswater. You'll also enjoy lovely strolls from the doorstep of your Windermere holiday cottage – why not walk to the top of Orrest Head, where the lake views are the same today as the ones that inspired Alfred Wainwright.
The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.

While it wasnât too much of an issue, the provision of a shower mat for the bath would have been welcome for safety, plus there was a lot of condensation in the bathroom as extractor fan was inadequate. A little confused about the instruction to not take the dog on the park as there were many dogs, often off leads, running around said park. Once again not too much of an issue & certainly didnât spoil our enjoyment of the cottage

However, on arrival the whole of the downstairs had a stifling smell of what smelled like cat wee. It hits as soon as you walk in. There are stains on one of the settees that look like wee stains. I had to burn incense and aromatherapy oils all week to cover the smell. The kitchen bin was 3/4 full and the bin outside was full, there were notes to empty the indoor bins but we couldnât, as there was no room in the outside bin. All the pots and pans had to be washed before using, either dusty or grimey. Could have done with more toilet rolls and hand soap. Free view TV would be nice to have and a few logs in the basket wouldâve been a nice touch too. Although it was comfy and clean upstairs, the smell downstairs and the lack of cleanliness downstairs was really not worth the money and disappointing really. It could be a lovely place but itâs a bit of a rip off price when basic things canât be seen to prior to renting out.

But there is still no dishwasher, we're used to that, so not too big an issue. But the TV has always been very bad sound quality, but now the old TV seems to have been replaced with the exact same model which is just as useless, very bad a sound quality. Come on Lakelovers come into the 21st century.
