About this property

Town Yetholm 4.4 miles. Briar Cottage is a charming Victorian cottage settled into the countryside of Mindrum, near Town Yetholm, the Scottish Borders, so explore Northumberland with this family holiday home. Upon arrival, be captivated by a picturesque stone cottage, with a border of shrubs and climbing plants framing the windows and adding a pop of colour, a truly beautiful feature of this property. Be welcomed into a homely sitting area, with a woodburning stove warming your feet from a traditional fireplace, a great spot to relax in an evening and enjoy a good book. The kitchen/diner has contemporary furniture and cheerful yellow walls, as well as all of the home-from-home amenities needed for you to cook up a storm, which can be served on the dining table. Two homely bedrooms can be found, a double and a twin, as well as a bathroom, making this property ideal for a family, and there is a wonderful enclosed garden to the rear of the property where alfresco dining can be enjoyed. Mindrum is a rural location resting beside the Scottish Borders, with plenty of local walks, bridal paths and the options of cycling and fishing in the local area, and from here you can reach a lot of local attractions, however for a pub lunch or a convenience store, head over to the town of Town Yetholm. From here it is easy to visit picturesque walks in the hilly countryside of Westnewton, or head over to the coast and spend a day at the beach at Tweedmouth. This property is a great base for touring the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland with its Heritage Coastline and National Park. Fall in love with the countryside of Northumberland with a stay at Briar Cottage.

The two villages of Town Yetholm and Kirk Yetholm are situated half a mile apart on either side of the River Bowmont, at the north end of the Pennine Way. Once providing a route through the hills into England, the villages are named 'Yetholm' after the Scottish 'yet', meaning 'gate' and the Anglo Saxon 'holm' or 'ham', meaning 'settlement', essentially 'place at the gate'. Both villages boast good pubs serving excellent food, small shops and a gift shop. Within easy reach are Cornhill-on-Tweed, a small, agricultural village and the town of Coldstream, which lies on the northern bank of the world famous River Tweed, with both offering good, real ale pubs and a selection of shops. The major visitor attractions of north Northumberland and the Scottish Borders are within easy driving distance, including the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne with its excellent shopping and night life, Edinburgh, Alnwick, with its famous Treehouse and Gardens, Bamburgh and its beaches, Holy Island and of course, the beautiful Northumberland National Park.

Cafetière needed in kitchen Mirror would be useful in twin room Bedside light in twin room needs to be able to be turned on/off with switch on light, as inconvenient to operate it from socket. Desk too large and not suitable for storing clothes. Chest of drawers would be better, and would free up space around double bed so a bedside table could be provided on both sides.

A bit rough around the edges the double bed uncomfortable could do with a new mattress the red carpet a bit worn and constantly need to vacuum it the towels well warn could do with new towels the area is very nice easy to get to everywhere lovely walks dog friendly

There were 3 people and two dogs. An ideal cottage for travelling around the Scottish Borders. Lots of wild life to see, deer, hares, pheasants in the fields opposite. Highly recommend.
