  Lets start positive.

  ...Great location!!! Plenty of drawers and hanging space in downstairs bedroom. Bedding and towels spotless. Kitchen really well equipped but some crockery needs replacing as really scratched and some chipped. We had to buy flutes for prosecco and there were only 4 wine glasses none that matched (we are comparing this to a sykes cottage we stayed in earlier this year) Good to see an EV charging point Downstairs bed not comfortable and pillows very high and hard. Pillows also hard and high in twin bedroom. Our other guests in the upstairs double had no complaints. This is a personal preference but it is tricky watching TV after someone has retired for the evening as the seating area is directly underneath the bedroom. I dont think the lounge seating area is adequate or comfortable for 6 adults and the concrete hearth was an awful trip hazard. Lots of black mould in downstairs bathroom around the bath, loose toilet seat in downstairs bathroom One of the blinds was completely broken in the upstairs double bedroom and we had to buy black bin bags and tape to do a makeshift blind but it kept falling off because of the heat (weather is not your fault). The clothes maiden could do with replacing and we did not have pegs for the washing line I dont really think the garden space is comfortable. There is a large dead tree in the corner which needs removing We took photos of the blind in the bedroom and also of a couple of filthy greasy trays that had been left (we did dishwash them but I ended up buying a new tray).   The plus points first. Harbour Hideaway is in a fantastic location in Seahouses. Very handy for all the lovely local amenities. The convenient parking space is right outside the property. The decor is modern and the layout well thought out. For the size it is well equipped, the combined microwave is a larger model. We found the sofa bed to be comfortable and easy to convert from sofa to a bed. The views from the property are beautiful, with lovely walks along the coast. However, Harbour Hideaway is very small, once the sofa bed is made up, you can only just walk around it. The main space, not including the front door recess is app 2.3 metres, (less 40cm for the kitchen run, approx 1.9 metres) by 3.2 metres approx. There is a small recess for the front door. We found damp and high levels of humidity to be a problem and have provided the owner with photos. Thankfully we had lovely weather because it would be difficult drying wet coats, shoes and walking coats in such a confined space. There is very little storage space and we had to leave rucksacks, walking shoes and jackets in the car. All bedding and towels are provided but there were only two pillows, for two people. There is not room in the sofa bed storage for all the bedding, we had to leave a pillow out during the day. We stayed for five nights and found it a little challenging because of the lack of space and lack of storage.

  A week here was thoroughly enjoyed.

  Below is the Pros & Cons which we have gathered while staying here. Pros: Comfortable Beds Pet friendly Well equipped (Washing Machine) Enclosed garden Easy access to top sights in Northumberland (Transport Required) but not too busy in the local area Nice view from the top windows Private parking on site (plus electric car PodPoint) Cons: Some Decor needs updating; paint marks, scratches and broken ornaments etc. bird poo on lounge focal point canvas & chipped crockery No toilet roll holders Blind in upstairs bedroom broken (woken up by bright sunlight daily) Living room furniture only big enough for 4 Cleanliness could be a little better Water pressure isn’t the best (only good enough for one shower etc) Shower head needs changing Bin bags are cheap and broke when moving Label bins to show which is recycling Upstairs bed sticks out too much to walk round (because of the sloping roof) so be careful of your shins getting hit All in all a nice week here and with these cons being addressed we would gladly stay again. :)

  Dairymaid Cottage has been thoughtfully and tastefully presented for holiday lets.

  Everything is provided and easy to use. We enjoyed the staying there, and appreciated all the comforts. However, there was no indication from Sykes about the building works (in the "vicinity") being actually adjacent to the cottage.. I also asked whether the approach road to the cottage had lighting at night, and was told that it did. In fact the cottage is reached from an unlit junction, into an unlit lane, then to locate an unlit gateway. Neither outside light on the cottage was working. By telephoning the Chester office, we managed to get one swiftly repaired. The main reason why we will not recommend Sykes to anyone is because Customer Support has now been digitalised. This means that one cannot speak to anyone directly, and even my call to Northumbrian Cottages from the cottage about the lights was answered in Chester. Personal contact is essential for tenants when holiday issues need to be discussed, and it is sad that this lets down the good quality of the rest of the operation.

  Bathroom sink slow running due to dirty hair filled drain, shower was the same.

  Dusty cobwebs everywhere in the cottage and bathroom skirting boards not cleaned covered in dust. A hoover would be great to clean up sand brought in which being a seaside location is inevitable, brush and dust pan no good for older couples ! Oven not cleaned food bits left in the bottom. Would like more essentials, no one wants to take washing up liquid or toilet rolls on holiday, and what was supplied was insufficient for a week! Cafetière obviously for decoration only as we wasted some of our ground coffee as it just poured out the grounds with the water, had to buy one from Morrison’s. Wi-Fi didn’t work used up so much data, on phones as it only came on occasionally and even then was poor connection. Rug in sitting room was dirty too, perhaps not the best colour for a holiday let. The cottage is ‘okay’ but a few small simple changes would easily take it to excellent. Not the best value for money, we stayed in cheaper places in the area with far better facilities and much cleaner.
