Wipe muddy boots and paws at the door to be welcomed into the open-plan kitchen/dining room, spacious enough to whip up a hearty meal with all the local produce you’ve foraged and to enjoy dining long into the evening. Tired walking muscles will not be able to resist the calming call of both bedrooms downstairs, which each feature wonderful panoramic views of the wooded valley that surrounds you. If you’re not quite ready for bed, head upstairs to the light and bright lounge to hunker down for the evening on the leather sofas and enjoy a film night around the Smart TV. Throw open the patio doors in the lounge to be met with a stunning balcony; why not dine alfresco and stargaze into the clear sky with the sublime countryside views as your backdrop. There is an open lawn area to the front of the property, whilst guests also have use of the shared outdoor splash pool a short stroll away, which is open across the Summer months.
From Barnstaple, keen cyclists and walkers can join up with the Tarka Trail, which occupies a disused railway line, and journey alongside the estuary to the Victorian seaside resort of Ilfracombe (23 miles) to admire Damien Hirst’s statue Verity, or jump aboard a sea cruise to spot dolphins. The endless sandy stretches of Saunton (18.5 miles) and Westward Ho! (20 miles) offer you some of the best surf in the country.
