North-eastern Scotland's Speyside region is home to the vibrant and growing tiny town of Dufftown. As the proverb says, "Rome was founded on seven hills, Dufftown stands on seven stills," it is also directly along the Malt Whisky Trail. A whisky tasting is a necessity, unless you are the driver of course, as there are currently nine distilleries in the region! In addition to the distilleries, the world-famous salmon fishing of the Strathspey region is accessible, and licences may be obtained locally. The 18-hole golf course in Dufftown features breath-taking surroundings, and visitors are warmly welcomed. In the winter, staying in the region offers excellent value for skiers and snowboarders because the Lecht ski slopes are only a 50-minute drive away, Aviemore is only about an hour away, and The Cabrach is a "Dark Sky Designated Area," making it perfect for astronomers.

The lodge was comfortable and the views are awesome. If its peace and quiet your looking for, this is a great location.

I would love to revisit, the only tiny issue was the tv, it would’ve been better with some type of connected device for Netflix, Disney plus, etc. HOWEVER, that’s a personal preference:) I would stay here again either way.

However, it's lacking in character, is managed very impersonally, and is very un-green. We never met the owners, although they evidently live only about 30m away. They objected to our electric car charging, but only via Sykes, never coming to discuss it, and with the information buried in the middle of their folder. They don't have recycling or compost bins (although Moray Council do), and they closely mow (and probably spray) a wide area round the cabin into a wildlife-free 'green desert'. There is another lodge nearby, not shown in the photos, and no direct way to walk up onto the Ben without driving first. This place is unlikely to meet your expectations if you like to engage with your immediate environment (rather than just using it as a base and driving everywhere). Electric car owners also beware: not only will the owners forbid you to charge there, but the chargers in the area often don't function, or can't be accessed because of the lack of a mobile phone signal.
