For more challenging walks, Holt is a great base for exploring Snowdonia National Park, where you can climb the tallest mountain in Wales and explore the breath-taking coastline. Alternatively, you can visit the Roman city of Chester, which plays host to a good selection of shops, cafes and restaurants, in addition to its famous zoo and racecourse. The small village of Holt sits on the Welsh and English boarder, sitting on the river bank of the River Dee. Within the village you will find a selection of pubs and charming shops, in addition to the ruins of Holt Castle, which dates back to 1284. Close by, is the roman city of Chester, which plays host to the famous zoo, excellent shopping and the popular racecourse.
