About this property

Resting in Doohoma, a short drive from the coastal town of Belmullet, County Mayo, is Nephin View, a delightful, single-storey home. Offering a prime position looking out upon the Atlantic Ocean, Nephin View offers a homely base for a family break, including all the essentials for a self-catered stay. Park up on the private driveway whilst taking in the panoramic vistas surrounding your new abode. Step indoors to reach the inviting sitting room, complete with plush seating and a woodburning stove to light on cooler days. Continue into the open-plan living space, the heart of the home, where you can prepare delicious meals, dine as a six, and unwind upon the sumptuous corner sofa with the Atlantic Ocean in the backdrop.

When sleep calls, select between three spacious double bedrooms, one of which benefits from a private en-suite wet room; the home is completed with a further wet room, also housing a washing machine for a convenient break. Spend the morning in the garden, before heading to Belmullet, a coastal oasis that covers a huge, rural hinterland, and home to the Carne Golf Links for those looking to improve their short game, and the Béal an Mhuirthead Tidal Pool for those who fancy a relaxing dip with tranquil sea views. The Mullet Peninsula offers a lovely coastal drive to Blacksod Pier where boat trips are available to Inishkea Islands.

Whilst you're there, take a tour of Blacksod Lighthouse or partake in some sea angling or another watersport. Make the car journey to nearby Ballina, a bustling settlement where you'll locate a hub of shops and eateries, whilst the Belleek Wood/Park, imposing Belleek Castle and Museum, and the Ballina Golf Club rest nearby, offering something for all types of visits. Head for the coast, where you can try your hand at a variety of watersports, including kite surfing and scuba diving, along with scenic walks along the Wild Atlantic Way such as the Erris Head and Cross loops. Achill Island just across the bay, a short journey by boat or approximately 1 hour by car, or for a nature-filled hiking area, be sure to tour Céide Fields, an expansive archaeological site, oozing history, and beauty.

Your trip to County Mayo would be incomplete without a visit to the Nephin National Park, which covers over fifteen-thousand hectares of uninhabited, unspoilt wilderness, and is overlooked by the magnificent Nephin Beg Mountain range. Gather your loved ones for an unforgettable getaway to Nephin View.

The coastal hamlet of Belmullet, which serves as the barony of Erris's Mullet Peninsula's administrative centre, is situated between the Atlantic Ocean's Blacksod and Broadhaven Bays and serves as the region's gateway to this mysterious and pristine peninsula in County Mayo. Although being categorised as a Gaeltacht (or Irish-speaking area), English is widely spoken. Here, visitors can experience a significant portion of Ireland's original culture and traditions, including traditional Irish music and the country's well-known song and dance. Many tourists to the region take advantage of the excellent freshwater and saltwater fishing that is available, while sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and surfing are also popular activities that can be done from the area's beaches. The town is warm and welcoming and has several bars, four hotels, stores, seafood restaurants, as well as a variety of festivals that take place all year round. The Neolithic Cèide Fields, the untamed wilderness of Ballycroy National Park, the soaring cliffs of Ceann Iorrais (Erris Head), and the island of Inis Gluaire—the last resting place of the fabled Children of Lir—can all be found in the four corners of Erris.

Do not take the following as comments which negate the overall experience. We were very pleased with our stay. But the owners/operators could think about. Central heating could do with attention. Water supply temperature to radiators is too low for a winter stay. Somebody may have tried to do something about this, because the water temperature to the hot water service to taps is ridiculously high. A waste of energy and so hot as to be unsafe for children or the confused or disabled. The hot water tank is unlagged.........which is a serious waste of money on heating oil. An insulting blanket for the cylinder would cost little. Or, failing that, wrap an old coat around it. We wrapped it in our coats during our stay. A previous review criticized the kitchen ware as not being a matched set......well, it is not .....but that matters not a jot. It is a comfortable, nicely refurbished cottage, with a sitting and dinning place place by a window with magical views. Plenty of well-surfaced parking area, including parking at the rear cottage out of sight from the public road.

If you’ve got Wi-Fi, which you have, invest in a smart tv. Water pressure in showers was really poor. The directions to find you were terrible and gave a bad first impression but not as bad as your Wi-Fi not working when we arrived. We appreciate you got it sorted pretty quick. The problems raised in the terrible review in May have mostly been resolved. Personally I’m not a fan of assorted crockery as it looks scruffy and very mean of you. We loved the teabags/ coffee/ washing powder/ shampoo/ salt n pepper/ oil/ soap/ bedding/ towels/ milk etc… so many assorted items to get us started.

We had a very comfortable week there, using the house as a base for local walks as well as journeys further afield to the Mullet Peninsula, Achill and Ballycroy. Overall the house is well resourced, with good beds, towels, bathrooms and washing facilities. The kitchen works well, though the house would benefit from some additional crockery, implements and general kitchen kit. There is ample parking, good outside space, and all in all I would recommend Nephin View for a holiday with wonderful scenery and relaxed atmosphere.
