About this property

Gothic Castle Estate is an enchanting and historic property set within a private estate near Gort, County Galway, overlooking its own secluded lake. This striking Gothic castle offers a truly unique and luxurious retreat, rich in character and heritage.

Inside, the castle features nine elegant bedrooms accommodating up to eighteen guests, along with beautifully appointed reception rooms that are ideal for private gatherings, celebrations and formal dining. The property is always rented on an exclusive basis, ensuring complete privacy and a truly personalised experience.

Outside, the estate is home to mature woodlands, landscaped gardens and scenic walking and cycling trails, inviting guests to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. The private lake is a haven for anglers, offering exclusive pike fishing in a tranquil and unspoilt setting. Guests can also enjoy the estate’s exclusive clay pigeon shooting range, as well as guided fallow deer stalking by arrangement.

Located approximately 40 minutes from Shannon Airport and 45 minutes from Galway City, Gothic Castle Estate is perfectly positioned for exploring the west of Ireland, including the dramatic landscapes of the Wild Atlantic Way and the iconic Cliffs of Moher. The surrounding area offers a wealth of cultural and recreational activities, from historic sites and golf courses to charming towns and local attractions. Gothic Castle Estate combines privacy, heritage and refined country living to create a truly memorable Irish escape.

The castle is located just a short distance from Galway City and is conveniently positioned for access to Shannon International Airport.

Fishing:

The lake is a completely private fishery and, as such, has not suffered the fate of many of the country’s other lakes with invasive species such as the Zebra Mussel and algal bloom taking hold. There are many large and smaller pike, as well as some perch and rumours of one or two large trout. Exclusivity means that only one boat can be on the lake at any one time, with no more than two anglers per boat. The castle provides the boat and engine, lifejackets (if required), maps and related equipment. Limited tackle can be rented, and a fishfinder is also available.

Shooting:

Many of the estate’s woodlands were planted in the late 1700s and 1800s specifically with the sport of shooting in mind. At the end of the nineteenth century, the estate was famous throughout Ireland for the quality and number of woodcock presented and, on an average day, the bag also included pheasant, duck and partridge.

Nowadays, guests can enjoy an exclusive clay pigeon shooting range on the estate.

Fallow deer are plentiful across the estate. For a small fee, the estate’s Deer Stalker can take guests out on foot, and for more adventurous guests who wish to shoot, there are mature heads available for trophy hunters. The meat can be processed by arrangement.

Equestrian (local options):

While horse riding is no longer available on the estate itself due to insurance restrictions, there are excellent equestrian opportunities nearby. Local hunting includes the Galway Blazers, the North Galway Hunt, East Galway Hunt and the North Clare Hunt. There are also local riding groups, such as the “Turkey Trotters” based near Gort.

Thank you so much for a wonderful week at Gothic Castle Estate. Everything was perfect from the service to the spectacular rooms and estate grounds. The various activities you arranged on our behalf were well organized and enjoyed by all, especially the clay pigeon shooting and fishing. I think however, what made our visit truly special was the warmth with which we were welcomed and the around the clock attention provided by Barry and Gordon. They were absolutely fantastic. Please extend my sincere thanks to them. I hope I will get the opportunity to visit again soon.
