The small town of Oughterard, known as the gateway to Connemara, is just 1.5 miles away. Here, you’ll find excellent shops, restaurants and traditional bars, with lots of attractions on the doorstep. Cruises on Lough Corrib (the largest in the Irish Republic), run island hopping and day trips, while the loch is renowned for its salmon and trout fishing. Meet the alpacas for a walk at family-run Curraghduff Farm (6 miles) and explore historic Gengowla Mines (2 miles), where miners once toiled for silver and lead by candlelight.
