About this property

Tuam 5.9 miles. Forest House is a charming annex adjoined to the owner's home, set on the main road outside the town of Tuam, County Galway. Offering an open-plan living space and shared patio area, Forest House offers a lovely bolthole for couples seeking a weekend or more in this region of Ireland. Upon arrival you are greeted by ample off-road parking directly outside the annex. Cross the threshold into your secluded oasis and admire the open-plan living space, where you can cook up your favourite dishes in the kitchen housing an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge/freezer. Enjoy romantic meals together at the dining table or curl up by the woodburning stove in the sitting area for a cosy night in. Step outside to the shared patio and decking with furniture, and take a moment to reflect on the holiday and think about the adventures to come. Retire to the double bedroom for some much needed rest after a day of exploring, served by the shower room for those quick freshen-ups. Head six miles to the town of Tuam, home to historical sites, such as the Cathedral and Round Tower, and take in the old-world charm of its winding streets. In Headford, explore the ruins of the 13th-century Castlegar and the Holy Trinity Church, before sampling some of the local fare at the eateries and pubs. If you’re looking for an exciting day out, the bustling city of Galway is not too far away, with its lively nightlife, superb restaurants and a plethora of attractions, including the Spanish Arch, Eyre Square and the Galway City Museum. Enjoy the tranquillity of the area, the beauty of the neighbouring towns, and the thrill of exploring the breathtaking Galway whilst staying at Forest House.

The village of Abbey is situated 7 miles west of Portumna and 11 miles from Loughrea, south east of Galway city on the northern shore of Lough Rea. County Galway’s winner, for three years running, of Ireland’s Tidy Towns competition, the village of Abbey offers two pubs and a supermarket, and a monastery dating back to the 11th Century, from which the village takes its name. Portumna is nearby, offering good fishing and watersports, while the medieval town of Loughrea is host to several shops and pubs, two 4 star hotels, an 18 hole golf course and a lake, renowned for its fishing. Gort, is a medium sized market town on the Galway-to-Ennis Road, situated in a gap between the Slieve Aughty Mountains and the Burren to the south. There is a strong tradition of Irish music in the locality and many pubs stage sessions at night. With the cosmopolitan delights of Galway city and the popular beach at Salthill also within driving distance, this is an ideal touring base.
