About this property

Villa Colombo is a lovely hilltop villa which looks down over the town and out to the sea. Close to the coast, La Spezia centre and within easy reach of the famous Cinque Terre villages, it would be hard to find a holiday home better placed!

The villa sleeps 5 guests across 3 elegant bedrooms and has 2 bathrooms. The living space comprises of a spacious kitchen, living room with comfy sofas and a dining area, making this an ideal home for a family trip. Located within an old church building, the house blends antiques and period features with modern conveniences such as air-conditioning and Wi-Fi to give you the best of old and new.

The beautiful garden is broken up into different sections; outside the doors there is a covered veranda with dining table for enjoying meals al-fresco, then around the corner you will find a fenced section which contains the gorgeous pool and sun-loungers. There are also little seating areas, flowers and plants dotted around the garden. This home and its outdoor space really lends itself to spending quality time together as a family or group of friends.

The house sits in a residential area just outside of La Spezia, a town with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants which is really handy to have so close. The centre of the town and the thriving port are just fifteen minutes away by car, though the amenities on its outskirts are much closer. There are a number of attractions to see, including a 14th century castle, historic churches, archaeological and naval museums. Make sure to pick up some groceries at the fantastic street markets while in town.

La Spezia has a harbour where you can enjoy freshly caught seafood and take in the panoramic views as the sun goes down. When you wish to head to the beach then there are a wealth of amazing beaches in the area, Lerici’s beaches in the Gulf of Poets are just 30-minutes away or 45-minutes’ drive in the opposite direction are the beaches of the Cinque Terre villages.

Perched on a hill overlooking La Spezia and the Ligurian coastline and just half an hour from Lerici and 45-minutes from Cinque Terre, Villa Colombo is the ideal base for your holiday as you can visit many towns and attractions with ease and then retreat to the peace and quiet of your villa.
The busy centre of La Spezia with its historic buildings, cafés, shops and harbour is just fifteen-minutes away by car, great for picking up some fresh local produce to cook up an Italian feast or as a place to wander around for the morning. When in town, make sure to visit Castello di San Giorgio; a medieval castle which also contains an archaeological museum, people also tend to visit just for the incredible views.
The nearest beaches to the villa are around 30-minutes away, though the harbour and nearby cliff-fronted sea are closer for scenic walks. Head to Lerici for some gorgeous beaches or Monterosso al Mare, a large beach with white soft sand and clear water which is 40-minutes down the coast in the opposite direction.
For guests who are interested in a more active day out in nature, check out some of the amazing hiking trails, scuba diving trips from the harbour or the golf club 30-minutes away in Lerici.

Another lovely place to visit as a family is the nature reserve in Porto Venere which is a 35-minute drive from the villa. The medieval town of Porto Venere is a brilliant place for a day out but is most famous for its nature reserve. Visit this rugged coastal area for cycling, climbing, walking or just taking in some of the natural beauty.

One of the main draws of this area is of course the Cinque Terre villages which are a unesco World Heritage site and are beloved by locals and tourists alike. You can visit the villages of Cinque Terre by car, train or by boat from La Spezia. The drive is 45-minutes but the train is faster. You could choose to visit one village at a time or go out with a guide or private boat tour to see a few in one day. These well-maintained fishing villages are filled with pretty pastel-coloured buildings, little coves and traditional eateries and as they are mostly car-free in the centres they are peaceful places to spend the day. Vernazza is one of the more popular of the villages, with stunning architecture and amazing coastal views it is a must-see location.
