This is a small village with a much-loved restaurant a couple of doors away. The village is a very short distance from Sacro Monte di Crea, a unesco World Heritage site with a walking path winding past 23 chapels, part of a vast nature reserve with panoramic vistas.
Within a short drive you will find Moncalvo (5km), a charming hilltop village known for its surrounding woodland rich in truffles. Stroll through its cobbled streets and discover its medieval buildings and old churches before dining out in one of the village’s many restaurants serving authentic Piedmont cuisine. The town is particularly lively in late October, when it hosts the famous truffle fair.
Equally enticing is nearby Calliano (11km), set amidst a patchwork of vineyards and hazelnut groves. This historic village offers a slower pace and an authentic taste of rural life. Activities nearby include wonderful walking routes, mountain biking and horse-riding. Look out for the annual Palio Ragliante, a traditional donkey race and festival held in late October.
The elegant town of Asti (25km) makes for a rewarding day trip, with its grand palazzos, medieval architecture and Romanesque churches. Known for its sparkling Asti Spumante and the lively Palio horse race, the town also boasts excellent dining options and a relaxed, refined atmosphere that captures the spirit of the region. Another highlight of the region is Casale Monferrato (23km), the historic capital of the region with its incredible cathedral dating back to the 12th century and Baroque synagogue.
Across this part of the Piedmont region, wine enthusiasts will delight in visiting local cantinas, where expert vintners guide guests through tastings of Barbera, Grignolino and other DOC wines of the region. For an unforgettable culinary experience, many agriturismi in the surrounding hills serve up rustic dishes enriched with Piedmontese truffles, wild mushrooms and handmade pastas.
