About this property

Nestled on the hillside on the outskirts of the ancient village of Xaghra on Gozo, Villa Xaghra offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Gozitan countryside, amazing designer spaces, three bedrooms plus an endless list of entertainment. This list includes indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a superb home cinema room which doubles up as a fourth bedroom with a full size wall folding bed. Villa Xaghra is incredibly spacious with two living spaces, two kitchens and a characterful wine cellar. Its outdoor spaces are fabulous too. It is the perfect pick for a spot of switch off and to spend special time with your loved ones.

Xaghra is a village with a wondrous past, sprinkled with characterful, ancient buildings from time gone by. It sits on high ground northeast of the capital, caressed by the lush valleys of Ramla, Ta’ l-Ghejjun and Marsalforn and encircled by the stunning bays of Ramla, Ghajn Barrani and Marsalforn. Xaghra is home to the astonishing UNESCO World Heritage Ggantija Temple complex with its two Neolithic stone temples dating back to 3600BC, making them amongst the oldest freestanding stone buildings in the world. Other treasures of this picturesque village are the Ta’Kola Windmill, the Pomskizillious Museum of Toys and two caves found beneath private houses.

Within Villa Xaghra’s elegant stone exterior lies a long list of exceptional features and incredibly striking interior decor. You will discover glossy marble flooring, beautifully finished hardwood features, clever lighting and a stylish array of contempororary furnishings. The villa has been masterfully built into the rocky landscape with exposed stone walls featured throughout. The entry level of the villa is home to a sensational, eye-catching open plan living space in black, white and red tones, two gorgeous bedrooms, one of which enjoys an ensuite bathroom plus there is a separate bathroom. Plush white leather sofas sit by the fifty inch television and in the perfect position to admire the stunning views that this property offers. The kitchen is a chef’s dream with a sociable curved island and high end appliances. Laundry facilities are available in a separate utility room. Sliding doors open to the wonderful terrace and pool area, also drowning this wonderful space in the unique sparkle of Gozo light.

Villa Xaghra comes with a superb indoor swimming pool which is built into the rock surroundings. It is heated in the winter months and is a wonderful extra. The private cinema room needs to be seen to be believed. It is phenomenal with surround sound, a giant projector screen and rows of lavish leather recliner seats. You will not be able to get your teenagers away from this room. They could even sleep there by pulling down the wall mounted bed! It is a brilliant spot for the perfect movie experience.

Downstairs, you will discover the entertainment room, another wonder with a bar, kitchen, plush sofas and another massive television. You are so spoilt for entertainment spaces at Villa Xaghra! This level is home to an atmospheric wine cellar where you can enjoy a bottle of your favourite tipple with your friends and family. There is also a twin bedroom with an adjacent bathroom on the lower level.

Villa Xaghra offers a gorgeous deck with a beautiful swimming pool, a shaded alfresco lounge and dining area, an excellent barbecue and a traditional wood oven. There is also a mature garden sprinkled with ancient carob and olive trees and a fine collection of fresh herbs.

Guests at Villa Xaghra can opt for delicious meals to be prepared by a private chef, a chauffeur service, massage services to relax your mind, body and soul or airport transfers. This really is a fabulous rural retreat where you can unwind, relax and rejuvenate.

The wonderful Villa Xaghra enjoys a splendid rural location with stunning panorama on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Xaghra. The village is surrounded by lush fertile valleys, some of the best agricultural land in Gozo and stunning beaches. Xaghra is the third largest place on Gozo after the capital Victoria and Nadur. The village boasts gorgeous ancient buildings including the Ggantija Temples and Ta’ Kola Windmill, a restored eighteenth century windmill with its original mechanism and restored miller’s living quarters which are now a folklore museum. The Ggantija Temples are the most famous prehistoric site of the Maltese islands. Xerri’s Grotto and Ninu’s Cave are two caves that are easily accessible from the village square with fabulous examples of stalactites and stalagmites. On the edge of Xaghra, with breathtaking views of Ramla Bay, is the mythological Calypso’s Cave, supposed home of the nymph Calypso in Homer’s Odyssey. On the shore below Calypso’s Cave are the ruins of a fortification built by the Knights of Malta in the mid 18th century. The Xaghra toy museum, Pomskizillious Museum of Toys, enjoys a display of antique toys.

Gozo offers a quieter, more tranquil holiday experience than its larger neighbour, the island of Malta. It is roughly twenty five minutes away by ferry. The capital city of Victoria offers plenty of historical interest, boasting a variety of museums such as the Cathedral Museum, a Folklore Museum, the Gozo Nature Museum, the Old Prison and a Museum of Archaeology as well as a state-of-the-art Visitor’s Centre. Victoria offers excellent shopping with a daily market on Independence Square and a number of smart shopping malls. Its pretty Villa Rundle Gardens are lovely. Only a few families now live within the Citadel walls. In the main square, you will discover the Law Courts, Bishop’s Palace and the magnificent baroque Cathedral of Gozo dedicated to Santa Marija.

Though the island is small, it is best to hire a car to explore. You can hire one in Malta and take it across on the ferry for a surcharge. There are some magnicifent beaches and coves including Ramla, San Blas Bay and Dwerja. Guests that enjoy hiking will appreciate breathtaking scenery when visiting the valley of Wied l-Għasri or heading up Tal-Merżuq Hill. The island is sprinkled with soaring cliffs, turquoise waters and lush valleys. When night falls, there’s no better place to stare at the stars than the remote coastal spot of Xwejni, known for its wonderfully clear skies. On the north coast of Gozo, just past Qbajjar Bay and west of Marsalforn, the coast is characterised by three hundred and fifty year old rock-cut saltpans which protrude into the sea and stretch for roughly three kilometres. During the summer months locals can still be seen scraping up the crystals of salt.

The Dwejra Tower is a small watchtower in Dwerjra Bay which was completed in 1652. It is open to the public and is one of four surviving coastal watchtowers in Gozo, the others being Xlendi Tower, Mgarr ix-Xini Tower and Isopu Tower.

The Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary is a must stop. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’Pinu is a Roman Catholic basilica and national shrine roughly seven hundred metres from the village of Gharb. It sits in open countryside with sensational views.
