About this property

An inviting 2-bedroom holiday home around 3km from Calonge on the Costa Brava, Villa Maracuya offers modern facilities and views of the sea and countryside. Among the highlights of this property is a magnificent outdoor pool which is available all year-round.

Suitable for up to four guests, Villa Maracuya is a cosy villa perfect for a small family or a couple. It enjoys a quiet location but is within 1-2km of most local amenities like restaurants, bars and shops. The area also offers plenty of sports facilities, including golf courses and tennis courts.

The house itself features some attractive outdoor spaces. As well as the swimming pool, you have a dining area and barbecue, terrace seating and sun loungers beside the pool, which has easy step access. Pretty gardens surround these areas which enjoy some lovely views across the countryside to the coast.

Inside, a light and bright living area provides comfortable seating, a flatscreen TV and wood-burner. This open-plan area also has a dining table and chairs and incorporates the kitchen. Here you will find a freezer, oven, hob and microwave amongst other appliances. There is also an appealing view of the gardens.

A double bedroom and a twin bedroom can be found on the same level, along with a bathroom. On the lower-ground floor, you have a second bathroom too.

Calonge offers plenty to see and do, with its beachfront promenade ideal for relaxing walks and dining on the restaurant terraces. The children will love the nearby Aquadiver water-park, while adults – with the right timing – could enjoy the classical music festival which takes place at Calonge’s medieval castle each summer.

Several other destinations within a reasonable driving distance are well worth a visit. Just down the coast, you have the botanical gardens of Cap Roig. Further north, pretty Llafranc and the beaches of Sa Riera and Sa Tuna are among the coastal highlights. Calonge is also only 40 minutes’ drive from the city of Girona, where historic buildings and a strong art and cultural scene await you.The area of Catalonia extending north of Barcelona has no shortage of beach resorts and attractive coastal hideaways to uncover. Large towns such as Badalona and Mataró later give way to smaller but much-loved locations like Llafranc and Begur, giving this stretch of the Costa Brava a satisfying level of variety.

What lies inland is also positively rewarding. With a landscape dominated by mountainous regions like Montseny and the Cadiretes, it would be a shame not to take some time away from the beach to enjoy some incredible scenery either on foot or by bike. The latter area extends as far as the coast north of Tossa de Mar, offering the perfect opportunity to combine the two.

One of Catalonia’s most impressive historic cities lies around 35 minutes’ drive north of here – Girona. Whether it’s to view the Arab Baths, the record-breaking wide nave of the Catedral de Santa María or the coloured houses lining the River Onyar, you are assured of an inspiring visit. Girona is also home to Catalonia’s largest urban park, Devesa, a wonderful green oasis in the heart of the city.

For something a little more rugged, the mountains of Montseny are a vast playground for hikers and climbers. Richly diverse in terms of both landscape and climate, this vast natural area is one of the region’s must-sees. To the south, the smaller Parc del Montnegre i el Corredor offers a relaxing outdoor environment that’s well suited to walking.

Along the coast to the east of this area, a number of attractive towns make for appealing excursions, such as Arenys de Mar with its eye-catching historic buildings and pretty harbour. North-west of Barcelona, the city of Terrassa provides an alternative angle on Catalonia. This important industrial city boasts some impressive architecture in the form of the Modernist Masia Freixa and Mercat de la Independència central market. Its National Museum of Science and Technology offers an intriguing overview of more recent developments. The Villa
