About this property

Mardi Gras rests on the outskirts of a quiet village Upwell, Norfolk, offering an inviting single-storey cabin that’s just right for couples in search of a laid-back rural escape or a small family with children to have a memory they will never forget with the farm animals. It is a working smallholding with animals great for the little ones to explore. Step inside and you’ll find a bright, open-plan living space with a neatly arranged kitchen, dining area and comfortable sitting spot, a sociable setting to relax after exploring the surrounding countryside and characterful market towns nearby. The compact kitchen is well-equipped with a two-ring hob, microwave, fridge and air fryer, giving you all the essentials for easy holiday cooking without any fuss.

The double bedroom provides a restful place to retreat to at the end of the day and benefits from an en-suite walk-in shower, adding a welcome touch of convenience. Simple in layout yet thoughtfully presented, the cabin offers a calm and cosy base whatever the season. Outside, a private enclosed lawn with a barbecue creates a pleasant space for al fresco dining when the weather’s on your side. Private driveway parking for one car keeps things straightforward, and with pets welcome, your four-legged companion needn’t miss out. With a shop and friendly pub nearby, and Wisbech and King’s Lynn within driving distance, Mardi Gras makes a charming base for discovering Norfolk’s tranquil waterways, gentle walking trails and unspoilt rural charm.

Upwell is a small and charming village resting amidst the glorious Norfolk countryside, just 18.9 miles away from King’s Lynn. The villages of Upwell and Outwell were once collectively known as 'Welle' or 'Welles' and even today, it is not obvious where one village starts and the other ends. Within this attractive waterside village, you will find a host of amenities. Until 1960s, Wisbech tramway connected the village, however, when it closed a preservation society arose, led by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, who is known as the author of the Thomas the Tank Engine books. Today, you can discover the history of the tram, which provided much of the inspiration for the classic children’s stories by exploring the Outwell and Upwell walk. Alternatively, explore the historic town of King’s Lynn, home to a vibrant town centre and several endearing cobbled lanes, as well as the impressive Custom House, which overlooks the harbour. From Upwell, you can also visit the towns of Downham Market and Wisbech, or if you are feeling adventurous, explore the open landscapes of the Fens, as well as the Wildfowl and Wetland Centre in Welney. Upwell make a wonderful base for exploring surrounding Norfolk with your loved ones.
