About this property

Bow Cottage, a Cotswold stone three-bedroom cottage sits within the historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water, in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds. Bow Cottage is warm and inviting, with exposed honey-coloured stone walls, and Farrow and Ball colours throughout, it is an ideal place to call home for a family of six looking to escape to the country. Upon arrival you will find two off-road parking spaces directly outside the cottage, allowing you to easily unload your belongings. Step inside and make yourself comfortable in the lounge, with honey-coloured stone and a centre fireplace, this is a lovely space to unwind and chat about the day's adventures. Allow the house chef to cook up a storm in the fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher; there is even a washing machine for your laundry. Move upstairs and choose between two double bedrooms, each beautifully presented with original feature walls. The stunning bathroom with stone, feature walls, has a freestanding, slipper bath and large walk-in shower, together with a traditional basin and WC. On the ground floor there is a single bedroom, and an en-suite shower and handbasin, making it ideal for elderly or less mobile guests; there is also a ground floor cloakroom with WC. The safe, totally enclosed rear garden is covered with Cotswold stone and has a raised deck to catch the late afternoon sun and to enjoy a glass of wine. At the front of the cottage there is an outside charging point and a shower for our four-legged guests. With direct access to the village and walks to the Slaughters from the gate, Bow Cottage is well-placed for a Cotswold experience. For those who enjoy Clarkson’s Farm, his Hawkstone Brewery and Tap Room is a short, flat walk away, a perfect end to a walk in the countryside. Head into the heart of the village and stock-up on your essentials at the Co-Op superstore, or why not sample a hearty meal at a restaurant, with The Rose Tree Restaurant, Kingsbridge, or The Dial House to name a few. There are some fantastic attractions that await you, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, as well as the Birdland Park and Gardens. Three miles away lies Stow-on-the-Wold, an ancient market town that offers a bustling farmers market, tea rooms, antiques, and craft markets and plenty of well-established eateries. Hiking and walking come in abundance here, offering routes through idyllic villages and trails overlooking the countryside. Break away to Bow Cottage and experience this delightful part of the Cotswolds.

The historic village of Bourton-on-the-Water, which is a part of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, has over 100 structures that are Grade II listed or higher and dates back to the Neolithic era. Bourton-on-the-Water is renowned as the Venice in the Cotswolds because of its lovely high street that is nestled next to the River Windrush, which is crossed by several diminutive stone bridges. According to custom, a football game is played every year in the River Windrush throughout the summer with the purpose of scoring as many goals and being as soaked as possible. The village is home to a diverse selection of tourist attractions, including The Model Village, Cotswold Motor Museum, Birdland Park and Gardens, a Dragonfly Maze, monthly farmers' markets, numerous tearooms, an artisan bakery, antiques and craft markets, a traditional sweet shop, cycle rentals, and its very own perfumery. Stow-on-the-Wold, a nearby town that was once an Iron Age fort, is a fine example of traditional England. Since the 12th century, this historic market town has hosted numerous fairs. Nowadays, it hosts a biennial Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs, and a monthly farmers' market. The large market square is bordered by an attractive collection of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique stores, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants, and its very own cricket museum. It has an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other. Visit Burford, a mediaeval village, where you may spend a wonderful day exploring the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens. Moreton-in-Marsh, a Saxon market town, and Broadway, a classic English village, are both easily accessible and make for wonderful day trips. The spa town of Cheltenham is known for its horse racing event in March, which concludes with the Gold Cup steeplechase, and is considered to be the most complete Regency town in England from an architectural standpoint. The Bodleian Library, Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums, the Botanic Gardens, and the 38 colleges of the university—half of which date back to before 1600—are just a few of Oxford's many illustrious attractions. Oxford is also known as The City of Dreaming Spires and is the oldest university city in England. Furthermore easily accessible are Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester, and the port city of Gloucester.

The owner is most helpful, prepared to respond to requests. There is a full size dishwasher, but to use this economically, there needs to be more crockery and cutlery. The current side plates are too small. We appreciated the washing machine, but the provided airer is too small - next door kindly loaned us theirs! There were hand towels for the shower rooms and toilet but we could have done with one for the kitchen as well as an extra tea cloth. There is an EV charger mentioned but it should be noted that this is just via an external 3 pin plug not a 7 kWh car charger. To the owner’s credit, when he realised we didn’t have the necessary lead to utilise this, he ordered one which we received the next day and overnight charging worked well. The rear outside area is nice to sit in but would benefit from some weeding. We have made the above points to hopefully help make what is a good property into a 5 star one. We had a very enjoyable week’s stay and would happily recommend the property.

Very nicely renovated and extremely homely. Ideal for our 3 small dogs too. A short walk to the centre of the village. A very comfy bed plus a beautiful bathroom with a great bath in. We read the first review which is probably putting people off but please take no notice it is a nice home. The owners seem to have taken note of some of the feedback by making small adjustments. It would be nice to have had curtains up across the patio doors leading to the garden, but that's only a personal preference to make it even more cosy. We loved our stay and would return. Thank you so much for making a great stay!

The owner went the extra mile to make sure we had what we needed. Thank you!
