From the moment you arrive you will begin to de-stress and relax from the island’s peaceful atmosphere. Beautifully converted to offer the warmest of welcomes, boasting open plan accommodation with vaulted ceilings and two wonderful bedrooms each having their own facilities. If you’re a "foody" there are plenty of restaurants and cafés and if you love seafood you shall never want to leave. You are surrounded by a superb coastline and a few minutes’ walking distance from the oyster fishery, where you can experience the freshest oysters. This is Britain’s most easterly inhabited island and access to the island is via the Stood causeway crossing... so watch the tide times! A superb location for walking, bird-watching, swimming and cycling, East Mersea boasts very quiet beaches of sand and shingle and often you will be the only person there. Be sure to bring your walking boots, leave the car behind, explore this magical location on foot with miles of walking and bird watching opportunities available from the doorstep. Only 9 miles from Colchester with its famous castle and zoo, also conveniently located for exploring Dedham Vale, Stour Valley and Constable country. Pub 1.5 miles. Supermarket 3 miles.

It will be difficult to fulfil the superlatives needed to describe this property. The owners, the Lodge. the furnishings, equipment, garden... and the whole experience! It was simply delightful in all ways imaginable.Yes we were fortunate with perfect weather- which btw the owners were so considerate to take into account and had provided 3 really substantial fans for the rooms- one which took ice packs to cool the air even.The communications with the owners was exceptional....even before getting there they sent a route which would be better than what the Sat Nav would suggest (and yes you were right!). Messages en route to advise of a blocked road due to accident.. Then once installed, contacts to ask if everything matched our needs etc...brilliant- you cant ask more of an owner than this, it was obvious they really DO care about their guests!The high standard of finish and quality of the furnishings was also another indication that they really cared about- joyfully eclectic but clearly tastefully expensive too. The beds and pillows were heavenly comfortable- with sheets of the highest Egyptian cotton Im guessing.The kitchen was another delight- brimming with everything you needed...even down to crab meat forks.... Which! btw I would love to thank them so much for their strong recommendation of Monks fishmongers along in West Mersea. We had a friend visit and bought one of their sharing mixed platters....omg it was just amazing!!! If you go DO try it they are very special and memorable.Privacy. Ohhhh goodness. We do love privacy and quiet. This we found in abundance in their garden. Its surrounded by trees and bushes -and all the wildlife that goes with it. In fact bird food and monkey nuts are provided to feed the hungry furry and feathered ones and we were spellbound in particular to watch the antics of the red squirrels that joined us every tea time for their feed too. The resident pheasant family also gave us much amusement.Sitting in the shade of that pergola on a hot day just soaking up the resplendent life around you was just sooo perfect! We both reminisced that it actually reminded us of being in a gite in France.Plenty to do in the area...if you can tear yourself away!..and Mersea island was even better than we expected. Certainly we would like to think we will revisit the island- and if we did this lodge would be the one and only place we would seek to rent. We have been doing cottage rentals for some 15 years now...often 3 or 4 a year- and we can honestly say this one was way up there in our top 3!!A massive well done and thank you to Mat and Andrea...this rental should be the very template of what other owners should aspire to!! The welcome gifts too were very very generous-and indicative of what lay ahead. I cannot speak highly enough of the collective experience and would thoroughly recommend this to anyone considering going there.

A lovely and well equipped lodge. A lot of attention to detail has gone into the furnishings and equipping the property. The owner is helpful and attentive but not intrusive, checking in with us every few days by text message. The garden of the lodge has areas of shade which was vital during the heatwave. A wide variety of wildlife visit the garden and decoration of the property reflects the red squirrel and pheasant visitors.The property is situated at the quieter end of Mersea island so there is not a huge range of amenities. There is a place where essential groceries can be purchased a few miles away and West Mersea has a few grocery and other stores. There are a number pubs and restaurants within a short drive. Walks can be carried out from the property .

Es ist eines der besten Ferienhäuser, die wir je hatten.Alles war TOP in Ordnung.Die Lage ist weit ab vom Schuss und man kann es richtig genießen.Nach West Mersea sind es gerade mal 10 Minuten mit dem Auto und man kann in vielen lokalen Restaurants lecker Fisch und andere Dinge essen.Die Gastgeber sind absolut zurückhaltend, stehen aber jederzeit mit Rat und Tat bereit! So muss das sein.Das "Tierangebot" vor den Fenstern ist grandios.Eichhörnchen, Enten, Fasane, Wild, einen diebischen Dachs nicht zu vergessen.Wir sagen DANKE, war eine tolle Erfahrung und vor Allem für uns Erholung pur.Liebe GrüßeFam.
