About this property

Wherry Cottage is a charming, one-bedroom detached cottage, with stunning views overlooking the Stour Estuary, in the lovely town of Manningtree on the Essex/Suffolk border. The cottage is ideal for a couple looking to escape to the country for a few days with the convenience of pubs, restaurants, shops and a mainline rail station on your doorstep. Entering this lovely cottage, is a newly fitted and well-equipped kitchen, overlooking the delightful courtyard garden and a door leading into a large split level, living/dining room with beautiful, ever changing views over the River Stour. Upstairs, a spacious landing provides a lovely sitting area. The master bedroom, which overlooks the estuary, boasts a king-size bed and adjoining dressing room. The luxurious bathroom has a walk in shower and a large sumptuous freestanding bath where you can relax after a long day. Outside, the enclosed courtyard garden provides the perfect space for a glass of wine or two and a table to enjoy alfresco dining in the warmer months. Opposite Wherry Cottage is the breath-taking Stour Estuary where you can enjoy a relaxing walk along the river up to Mistley Towers or just sit and watch the boats and the stunning sunsets with an ice cream or fish and chips. There is also a small sandy beach and launching for small boats, canoes and paddle boards. Take a short walk in the opposite direction and you are in the heart of Manningtree’s High Street with an eclectic mix of shops, cafes, tea rooms and pubs. A short distance away are Dedham and East Bergholt, in the heart of Constable Country and a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you can walk to Flatford Mill where John Constable painted many of his most famous works including The Hay Wain. Other local gems a little further away include the famous wool towns of Lavenham, Long Melford, Hadleigh, Clare and Sudbury with their wonderful Tudor buildings and wealth of history. Wherry Cottage is perfectly situated to explore the surrounding countryside in this beautiful part of the world.

The pretty hamlet of Mannington can be found in rural East Dorset, close to the borders of Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, and only 6 miles from both Dorset’s Wimborne Minster and Hampshire’s Ringwood. Mannington is situated on the edge of Holt Heath, a designated National Nature Reserve, managed by the National Trust, and is one of Dorset’s largest areas of heathland offering plenty of marked footpaths and bridleways, making it a lovely place to walk or cycle and also provides habitats for a wide range of plants, birds and animals, including Sand Lizards and Dartford Warblers. Within a short drive you can explore Moors Valley Country Park, where you can stroll through the wooded glades, take a ride on the little railway, take part in the Go Ape hire wire activities, or just simply enjoy a cream tea! Alternatively, take a trip to the Heavy Horse Centre, visit the picturesque ancient town of Wimborne Minster with its colourful three day market, or the New Forest National Park, famous for its wild ponies, deer, pretty villages and quaint inns, as well as the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Whilst an easy drive south takes you to the award-winning sandy beaches, great shops, theatres and cinemas at Bournemouth. Mannington makes a super rural base from which to explore this fascinating area.

Stuart is so helpful and the welcome package he left of food and bits to settle us in on our first day was wonderful. Would highly recommend a stay here. A very relaxing holiday

Lots to do, friendly town with great shops, pubs and restaurants. The cottage is well equipped with everything and more that you might need and is spotlessly clean. The welcome pack was a real treat. Highly recommend this cottage and I would definitely book again.
