About this property

A quaint, black and white, 17th century semi-detached picture postcard cottage, in the peaceful seaside village of Silecroft, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. This superb, welcoming cottage radiates traditional charm from every room, from its magnificent original, spiralled Edwardian staircase to its beamed ceilings and nooks and crannies adding character to your stay. It’s delightfully presented with three large bedrooms, a family bathroom, a spacious sitting room with a sofa bed offering additional space, a comfortable main sitting room with an open fire and a charming kitchen/diner with a cosy woodburning stove. Outside is a sunny front garden whilst the rear garden has a lawn with pretty flower borders, furniture and a large parasol for sunny days, along with lots of space to enjoy this tranquil location. An excellent pub is just a short walk away, whilst the beautiful, safe sandy beach is approximately half a mile away, the perfect place for a relaxed stroll beside the sea. Silecroft Beach also attracts a lot of sand and wave surfers during the autumn months. For a livelier day on the sand after sunbathing and swimming, Silecroft is also home to a horse trekking centre specialising in memorable coastal rides, just a short walk from your cottage, so you can easily take a gallop along the shore. The Cumbrian Heavy Horses are also based nearby and can be frequently seen trekking over Black Combe, which sits as a magnificent backdrop to Silecroft. A bracing 2-hour climb up Black Combe is rewarded with views reaching as far as Wales, Scotland and the Isle of Man. There's also a 9-hole links golf course nearby, whilst the village train station takes you to the West Coast Branch line for scenic day trips, allowing you to leave the car behind. Coniston Water, the third largest lake in the Lake District, is 30 minutes’ drive away and the beautiful Wasdale Head, lying under the shadows of Scafell, is 24 miles away. This superb cottage with excellent facilities on hand is a perfect place for a holiday with friends or family at anytime of the year.

The small hamlet of Silecroft is situated on Cumbria’s west coast, within the Lake District National Park. The hamlet offers an excellent pub serving food and a riding stable, plus it’s set on the West Coast branch line, which travels up the Cumbrian coast to as far as Carlisle. Just a short walk away is a sand and shingle beach, plus Black Combe Hill is close by, where from the top wonderful views can be seen, and a links golf course is also within easy reach.

Kitchen fully equipped even down to the oven gloves. The info in the hall draw could do with being updated. My one major concern was the fact that the back garden wasn't completely enclosed. Our Jack Russell got under the gate and through the hedges at the back. This meant that every time we let her out we had to go with her to make sure she didn't wander off and when sitting on the sofa we had to put her on her lead so couldn't fully relax in the beautiful outside space.

Had the most relaxing stay, weather was glorious so spent a lot of time in the courtyard on the comfy garden furniture! Cottage was spacious, clean and comfortable and had everything you needed! Bed was comfy. Only used 1 lounge as only 2 of us but nice if there's more of you or have kids that you have a second lounge. Ten minute stroll to the most amazing stretch of beach, so quiet will be fab when the cafe gets finished (sept 23?). Ate at the King William in Kirkanston and the Punch bowl near Millom both highly recommended. Tesco in Millom well stocked, nearest larger supermarket so stock up as Silecroft does not have a little shop and the pub is only open certain days and times as it's up for sale ( doesn't do food either). This west side of the lakes is stunning and we will definitely be returning! Lovely stay!
