Guests say

Hawthorne House receives high praise for its spacious, clean, and well-equipped accommodation in a peaceful location ideal for exploring the northern Lake District. Guests appreciate the beautiful views, proximity to local attractions and pubs, and the comfort provided throughout the property. While the many stairs may pose a challenge for those with limited mobility and a few guests noted minor maintenance issues, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many visitors keen to return.

The majority of guests describe the property as very clean and tidy, with only occasional minor comments about deeper cleaning needed in specific areas such as the oven or washing machine. Overall, cleanliness is a consistent highlight.

The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity, scenic views, and convenient access to Keswick, Cockermouth, Bassenthwaite Lake, and local pubs. The proximity to walking routes and public transport is also highly valued.

Guests find the house spacious, cosy, and comfortable, with particular mention of comfortable beds and a relaxing lounge. Some note the stairs may be difficult for less mobile guests, and a few mention cold bedrooms, but overall comfort is rated highly.

The property is well-equipped with kitchen accessories, parking, and amenities for walkers. Some guests mention the cooker is dated and there are many stairs, but the facilities generally meet or exceed expectations.

Several guests mention thoughtful touches such as a welcome pack, greeting card, and bottle of wine, though these are not guaranteed for every stay. Information booklets and local recommendations are also appreciated.

What a lovely find comfort in everything, chair in the lounge my favourite place. Kitchen has everything you would need, large airy rooms. Bit of a struggle coming down the stairs in the night & may pose a problem for the less mobile. Otherwise one of the best self catering places we've been. Just remember not to wholly relay on the buses to turn up. Fabulous stay.

Cottage in a great spot with lovely fell view. Near, but not on, the A66 but not bothered by traffic noise. Fabulous large separate shower cubicle. Instant hot water and ability to control the central heating a huge bonus. All the rooms are very spacious and the lounge is especially light and airy. Walk across the A66 (there is a pedestrian refuge) and there’s a fabulous cafe at Bassenthwaite Station and a lovely all abilities trail opposite the cafe at Silver Meadows. Would we go again? Absolutely yes we would.

Really good value property for short break. Loads of room. Instructions on finding property and obtaining key very clear.Pheasant Inn is very good just over the road.Good walk to Sale Fell from the property.Although near to main A66 no noise.Bus stop right by the house. No issue to us but could be if 2 x 2 people stayed, there was only 1 key.
