Guests say

Jasmine Cottage is highly praised for its unbeatable central location in Keswick, offering easy access to shops, restaurants, and local attractions while remaining peaceful and cosy. Guests appreciate its dog-friendly policy, well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds. While many find the cottage clean and homely, some mention areas needing refurbishment, particularly the lounge and carpets, and occasional issues with cleanliness and maintenance. The cottage is ideal for couples or small families seeking a convenient base in the Lake District, though a few guests note it can feel compact and would benefit from some thoughtful touches and updates.

Many guests found the cottage clean and tidy, but several reviews mention areas needing a deeper clean, such as carpets, upholstery, and bathrooms. Occasional reports of musty smells and missed cleaning details (e.g., stained towels, unclean pans) were noted.

The location is consistently described as outstanding, just steps from Keswick’s main square, shops, and car park, yet quiet at night. Guests repeatedly highlight the convenience and centrality as a major strength.

Guests generally find the cottage cosy and the beds very comfortable. However, some mention cramped spaces for families, steep stairs, and dated or uncomfortable sofas, which slightly detract from overall comfort.

The cottage is well-equipped with a modern kitchen and bathroom, but several guests note maintenance issues such as worn carpets, loose fittings, and a lack of some basic supplies. The garden is not considered dog-friendly by some, and the property would benefit from a refresh.

Some guests mention a lack of welcome items such as tea, coffee, or salt and pepper, and note that only minimal towels and tea towels are provided. No gifts or special touches are guaranteed, and guests are advised to bring their own essentials.

Accessing the keys was easy and the code worked first time, however someone had locked the front door in such a way which meant the keys wouldn't open it. We then had a long walk into the main street and around the block, a fair 10 minute walk to find the back door. We then accessed through the back door. Parking permit is great and central car park is very near, we managed to get a parking space when needed. The cottage is super close to the town, Derwent water and a park - our dog had lovely walks to the lake every day. There is also a lovely boat ride around the lake for £16, you can hope on and off at different spots. The pencil museum is a walk away. We visited Beatrix potter world and other areas. We also took a trip to Beamish in Durham which was only a couple of hours away.Food shopping - Booths is amazing, delicious meals and food ready to pop in oven. Cottage - small, traditional but has everything we needed. Except the frying pan, it had burned on food and was no longer non stick, so we didn't use it - I wanted to cook some steaks or some bacon but we just did without. This is common for all self catering and I usually take my own, but I didn't this time.

Jasmine cottage.good points Perfect location, a minute from the town centre but you wouldn’t know it as it’s so quiet -perfect comfortable main bedroom and bedroom. Not so good- low doorways lost count the times I snacked my head. As it was beginning of the season was expecting a higher standard of decor- damp/leak on bedroom ceiling. And other areas. Smaller room could benefit from loosing the tatty bunk beds and replacing with a decent single bed. Bathroom though new, was poorly laid out. Tiny sink ! Can’t swing the proverbial cat! Kitchen was well supplied, though bits and pieces of tableware and glasses - could do with a chopping board! We enjoyed our stay , but felt it just needed refreshing in areas. - ps please put the tv on the chest in the corner and not on the wall! The room is too small for a wall mounted tv- you get next strain! Parking permit was good but a list of where else we could use it would have been helpful. Was requested via email but never received.
