Guests say

The Retreat is a well-loved cottage praised for its idyllic location, perfect for rambling and watersports at nearby Wastwater Lake. Guests find it clean, cosy, and comfortable, with amazing views and a peaceful atmosphere. It's a favoured base for exploring the Western Lakes, despite some minor maintenance issues.

The property is generally described as clean and tidy, with a few instances of overlooked areas such as unemptied bins, a dusty shower fan, and some unclean kitchenware. However, these seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to mountains, lakes, and hiking trails, offering stunning views and a peaceful environment. Its remoteness is seen as a positive aspect by most guests.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage warm and inviting. Some minor issues with a shower door and window operation have been noted, but overall, the comfort level is high.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and a dehumidifier for drying gear. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as a loose toilet seat, shower handle, and a slow WiFi connection.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the host. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

Had a lovely stay at The Retreat. It was warm and cosy and an ideal base to explore the stunning Wasdale area. It was clean, tidy and had everything I needed for a comfortable holiday. I loved the addition of a dehumidifier to dry wet walking gear. Highly recommended accommodation.

Wow the view and it was so peaceful. The country lanes can be hard to drive but worth it for the peace and quiet you get (apart from the noise the sheep do)

great location. very close to scaffel pike and has lovely views. cottage itself though had some unclean pots and pans in the kitchen and black mould in one of the bedrooms. Two of our group have asthma and had to sleep in that room which caused their asthma to flare up.
