The Barn in Millom is praised for its peaceful, remote location and spaciousness, accommodating large groups with ease. Guests enjoy the rural charm, outdoor space, and the property's suitability for family gatherings and quiet retreats. The unique character and ample room for socialising are highlighted, despite some concerns over kitchen equipment and hot water supply for larger parties.
Guests have described the property as clean and tidy, indicating a high level of cleanliness throughout The Barn. No negative comments regarding cleanliness suggest that it is well-maintained.
The Barn's location is highly appreciated for its tranquillity and proximity to nature, with easy access to walks, the beach, and clear views of the night sky. Its remoteness is seen as a positive feature for those seeking a peaceful getaway.
While the property is generally seen as comfortable with plenty of space, some guests have noted issues with hot water availability and the heating system, which affects the overall comfort for larger groups.
The Barn offers a range of facilities, including a shared BBQ area and interesting layout. However, guests have pointed out that the kitchen could be better equipped for the number of guests it hosts, and there are concerns about Wi-Fi connectivity and drainage in the showers.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches from the host that would indicate thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

We recently stayed at The Barn in Cumbria, a cottage that sleeps 12 (in theory). While it’s set in a beautiful, peaceful spot surrounded by countryside, we did feel the kitchen equipment wasn’t quite equipped for the number of guests it promises to host.Let’s start with the good: it’s quiet, remote, and truly relaxing — if you’re after a digital detox, this is the perfect spot. When they say “middle of nowhere,” they absolutely mean it. No shops for miles, no phone signal, and the Wi-Fi is… let’s just say, character-building.Now, on to the practical bits. The kitchen could really use more equipment for a large group, cooking for 12 with what’s provided is a bit of an adventure in itself. Hot water tends to run out if few people shower at once, and the top floor shower drains slower than the Wi-Fi loads a webpage. If someone’s using the shower upstairs, the one downstairs takes the day off completely. We were a group of nine (not even the full twelve!) and still found ourselves juggling hot water, utensils, and patience. There’s also a shared BBQ area between two cottages, a nice idea, but it could get awkward if both groups fancy a late night grill session. Thankfully, we visited after summer, so no smoky stand offs occurred. All in all, The Barn is ideal if you’re looking to fully disconnect from the outside world, enjoy peace, quiet, and maybe practice mindfulness while waiting for the hot water to return. But if you’re after comfort, convenience, and a bit of modern connectivity, this might not be your top pick.A lovely setting, just not quite a five-star stay.Genuine 3 star

Lovely old character full building. The Barn is in a rural setting and consequently very quietly.Great for viewing the Milly Way,(clouds permitting). We were 5 adults, 2 kids and a dog and we had plenty of room.Would recommend.John and Joolz

The Barn is a fantastic family space in an absolutely stunning area, you need to be aware that there is nothing around for a good few miles, so as long as you are happy in your own company you will be fine. The pre visit communication was detailed and very helpful, we stayed during Storm Amy and lost power on the Sat morning, Ian the host was more than helpful and responded very quickly to my message, the power was restored very quickly. There were 11 of us and we all had an absolutely great time.
