Grade II* listed cottages in the Lake District National Park on the edge of the Lowther Castle Estate. These delightful cottages built in the 1770s are situated in a conservation village designed by the renowned architect Robert Adam for the 1st Earl of Lonsdale. Lowther model village was said to have been built in order to move the original village and thus improve the view from Lowther Castle. A collection of pretty sandstone cottages set around lawned courtyards, the cottages have listed status and the charm and character of these historic properties is retained and evident today. A visitor attraction in itself, the Lowther Estate offers guests a wealth of experiences - Lowther Castle with its stunning Gothic profile, the extensive gardens and picturesque grounds running down to the River Lowther. Annual events include The Lowther Show held every August, a family orientated traditional country fair, and Kendal Calling, an annual music festival held every July with hundreds of bands entertaining a capacity crowd of 26,000 music lovers.

Both cottages, 18 Lowther Village (UKC1920) and 19 Lowther Village (UKC1921) have been renovated throughout to offer a good standard of accommodation and the careful nature of the work has been sympathetic to the character of the properties. Oak flooring and doors, beamed pitched ceilings in the bedrooms and a careful choice of internal colour schemes complement the heritage of these charming cottages. Bathroom facilities with robes provided for adult guests, well-equipped contemporary kitchens and super kingsize zip and link beds are all presented to guests with care and attention to detail. Both cottages offer private outdoor patio areas for a relaxing end of the day glass of wine after a days exploring. Cyclists keen to take advantage of the fabulous routes in the area will appreciate the sandstone sheds providing bike storage facilities.

A short distance from the pretty village of Askham, Lowther village is ideally situated to head towards Ullswater and Keswick and enjoy the delights of the Northern Lakes. Alternatively, the beautiful Eden Valley is on the doorstep for walks, breathtaking scenery and villages offering Cumbrian hospitality at its finest, with the market town of Penrith 4 miles away. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
