About this property

With breathtaking views to the Coniston Fells, and Harter Fell rising majestically to the north, Grass Guards is perched high in the hills of the beautiful Duddon Valley. A perfect base for walkers, climbers, mountain bikers and families.

The farm dates back over 500 years and has been refurbished to provide luxury accommodation in this peaceful setting. Set a mile and half off the road, via the old forestry track, the secluded location not only offers peace and quiet, with just the noise of the sheep and the birds for company; it also offers an area with no light pollution that, on clear nights, reveals the most beautiful star filled skies. The front door opens into a large hall, perfect for storing walking boots and hiking gear. The south-facing sitting room has beautiful exposed beams and woodburning stove for that real Lakealand feel and a perfect social space. The dining room leads into the well-equipped modern kitchen. To the ground floor there is also a luxury family bathroom. A second hallway leads to the door to the garden and there is a convenient ground floor cloakroom with WC. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, one boasting en-suite bathroom. To the side of the farmhouse sits a large garden area with mature trees and shrubs and south facing patio.

Dunnerdale is a beautiful valley in the south west of the Lake District that sits between the Coniston Valley to the east, the Langdale Valley to the north and Eskdale and Wasdale to the west. The River Duddon winds through the valley passing the beautiful hamlet of Ulpha and Seathwaite. Take an afternoon stroll to the Newfield Inn, just 1.5 miles walk.

This is a truly magical property for a couple or small family looking for peace and quiet to recharge the batteries and immerse themselves into real Lakeland living.

Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Foxfield and makes for an ideal day out, travelling the west coast of Cumbria. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
