Situated in the little hamlet of High Wray, between Hawkshead and Ambleside one the quiet western shore of Lake Windermere. High Wray House a superb Grade II listed country house built in 1728 and refurbished to a beautiful standard.

Step into a large hallway that links to a welcoming sitting room with leather furnishings, wood burning stove and pretty windows. A large dining table with space for all of the family, sits at the heart of this property and a peaceful garden room provides a second relaxing living space. An Aga and American Style fridge / freezer take pride of place in the traditional kitchen, alongside a convenient pantry and laundry room. Head upstairs and you’ll discover a half landing with listed WC, beyond which the upper landing features a window with views to the Lake. On the first floor, guests can relax in a beautiful lounge and library room with spectacular views across the Lakeland countryside. High Wray House features three welcoming bedrooms; two with king size beds and one with a double. A spacious family bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower room complement the bedrooms. A delightful winding staircase leads to the attic with ancient oak beams. Please note this property is not suitable for children under 12 years old.

Outside guests will enjoy extensive gardens including a pretty orchard and summer house. Parking is available for three cars.

Walkers and cyclists adore High Wray House for its proximity to gentle trails on the shores of Lake Windermere. A short drive from the property will bring you to the pretty cobbled village of Hawkshead with a range of local shops and cafes. In the opposite direction the bustling village of Ambleside provides fine restaurants and Lakeland pubs.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
