Traditional Lakeland farmhouses don’t come much prettier than this and Thwaite Bridge House would look perfectly at home on the front of a traditional box of Lakeland fudge or biscuits.
Located in the Rusland Valley, Thwaite Bridge House is a mere 5 miles from Newby Bridge and only 5 miles from Hawkshead so is ideally situated for exploring this delightful part of the Southern Lakes. Rusland and surrounding villages are very quiet with little traffic although popular with walkers and cyclists. The busier resorts can be reached within minutes by car or to avoid the queues, you could take one of the world famous steamers from Lakeside, only a short way from the cottage, to Bowness Bay or Ambleside and do your own bit for the environment too.
From the moment you get a glimpse of the house from the bridge just along the narrow country lane, your eyes are drawn to the white washed, double fronted farmhouse that not only displays a wealth of character and historical features but surely must hold many tales of a bygone era. Original beams are everywhere and the flagged floors on the ground floor, some dressed with carpet, must be centuries old. The oak panelling and stairs are in excellent condition and although this is a traditional cottage, 21st century conveniences have been added, such as underfloor heating and modern, farmhouse-style kitchen, to ensure guests’ comfort. There is also a study with comfy seating and desk area where you can access broadband internet, or play the piano. The conservatory also has comfy seating from where you can gaze across the gardens and watch the sunset.
