Guests say

Acorn Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its prime location, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness and proximity to local amenities, making it a cosy and convenient stay. While some guests mention issues with parking and lounge space, the overall sentiment is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

The majority of guests report that Acorn Cottage is spotlessly clean, with only a few mentioning areas that could benefit from deeper cleaning or maintenance. The positive remarks on cleanliness are consistent across reviews.

The location of Acorn Cottage is highly praised for being close to shops, restaurants, and walking routes. Its proximity to a park and the town centre makes it an ideal choice for guests looking to explore Ambleside.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the property cosy, contributing to a restful stay. However, some guests note that the lounge seating is not sufficient for the maximum occupancy and that the sofas could be more comfortable.

The cottage is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and guests appreciate the modern bathrooms. However, there are comments about the lack of a proper garden/patio, issues with parking, and some maintenance needs, which slightly lower the score.

There is no consistent mention of gifts or welcome packs in the reviews, and therefore it is not possible to accurately assess the thoughtfulness category. While some guests mention the lack of a welcome pack, it is not clear if this is a standard offering or an occasional gesture.

Cottage smelt quite fusty and damp for the period of our stay. Lighting in lounge very dim, both lamp, and overhead lighting. Lounge very cramped as larger settee takes up a lot of room. Both settees very uncomfortable and larger one not in a good position for viewing the TV. Bathroom and shower room good, especially the shower room on the top floor. Bed comfy but think winter quilt in September was too hot. Overall adequate, and we did like being in the centre of Ambleside, but no the best Sykes cottage we have rented so far.

The house reviews are mixed but honest : Acorn Cottage is ideally situated for access straight into town , ideal for the park & fells Parking permit was superb , as were the kitchen appliances and top floor bathroom . Beds were comfy , and sofas seemed quite new . Fluffy towels and plenty hot water , The negatives are mostly around cleanliness , the lounge carpet is dirty and has a smell . The fridge hadn’t been cleaned , nor the kitchen floor . The gas fire in the lounge doesn’t work . Huge dirty cobwebs Hanging from ceilings . Seating in the lounge us for 4 and it’s cramped ( we only had 3 of us so that wasn’t an issue to us) There is no folder with any instructions for heating , boiler, or kitchen appliances or recycling. The back door area does have 4 stacking chairs , but even although we had gorgeous weather wouldn’t have sat with the bins , old dumped floor mops and disused plant pots . Just needs some tlc , thorough cleaning in and out . If we saw this house had replaced the flooring and sorted the decor downstairs would definitely stay again for the location .

The kitchen was spacious and well set out. Lounge was perfect for three of us in the evening. All the bedrooms were comfy and welcoming. Great bathrooms. The cottage is in a perfect location for Ambleside and only a short flat walk to Waterhead giving you access by boat or bus to the full length and more of the lake, there's plenty of options to cook at the cottage or eat out and everyone is very welcoming. We loved our time here and would return, and book Acorn Cottage again.
