Guests say

Holly Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its excellent location, spacious bedrooms, and comfortable beds. Guests appreciate the property's privacy and proximity to local amenities, with some enjoying the sound of nearby waterfalls. While some minor maintenance issues and a need for more thorough cleaning are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Reviews indicate a mix of experiences regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the property clean and tidy, while others noted dust, cobwebs, and a need for a deeper clean. The presence of mould in some areas has been mentioned, suggesting room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for being peaceful, yet conveniently close to Ambleside's centre. The ease of access to local shops and walks contributes to a positive experience, despite the steep hill mentioned by some.

Comfort receives positive remarks for the cosy atmosphere and comfortable beds. However, some guests found the sofas and downstairs bedroom less comfortable, with reports of dampness and a musty smell in the lower level.

Facilities are generally well-received, with adequate kitchen equipment and private parking. Criticisms include the need for maintenance, such as updating instructions for appliances, addressing mould issues, and ensuring heating is adequate. Some guests also suggested the addition of larger mugs and more hangers.

While some guests mentioned the lack of welcome gifts, which are common in other properties, and the absence of hand wash, the reviews do not provide enough information to accurately assess the overall thoughtfulness of the host. Therefore, a score cannot be given, and guests should note that such gifts are not guaranteed.

About this property

Holly Cottage is a lovely three-bedroom holiday home, spread over two floors, in the attractive small town of Ambleside which is situated in the Lake District National Park. It is just a five-minute walk to the town centre and the perfect spot for exploring the area by foot, public transport or by car. This beautifully appointed spacious property sleeps up to six people with the real advantage of having three bathrooms.

Walk to your covered porchway before stepping inside to your bright and spacious, open plan sitting room with dining area. Walk through to the kitchen area, make yourself a drink then relax on your stylish and comfortable sitting room suite to unwind from your long journey. You are sure to admire the elegant, co-ordinated furnishings.

Then go and discover your beautifully appointed and spacious bedrooms. Find your first bedroom on the ground floor, a lovely room with double bed and en-suite. Climb the stairs to find your stunning master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite. You will adore the chaise longue placed invitingly in the gorgeous feature window. Your other beautiful bedroom is a good-sized twin. You will also find a modern family bathroom on this level.

Set out on foot from your doorstep to experience some of the most spectacular walks in the National Park but beware, you will have a tough job narrowing down the list!

Tour the area by car to discover charming villages and hamlets, sparkling lakes and dramatic valleys. Take a short bus ride to the Visitors Centre at Brockhole for and exciting tree top adventure and zip wire, enjoy a drink on the terrace then take a cruise along beautiful Lake Windermere back to Waterhead at Ambleside.

Stroll downhill to the town centre for a little retail therapy in the independent shops and have a bite to eat in one of the many superb restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Lots of cooking done at plenty of utensils. Beds comfortable. Spacious, very cosy and few elements had been updated since site pictures such as fireplace and rug and curtains. Felt homely. Very quiet yet 2 minute walk in to Ambleside. Loved it!

Great position for walking into Ambleside. We were very comfortable there. The only thing is the downstairs bedroom smelt a bit damp and cold. Hopefully that can be sorted out.

Only a week or so ago did it change to not being enclosed in red writing as a new additional comment . I assume this was after a review I saw commenting on the fact it’s shared and there is no gate, so it’s misleading and disappointing. I have emailed regarding this but had no response which again is disappointing ! So I would appreciate a reply. The house was in a lovely location and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
