About this property

Set just a short level walk from the head of Lake Windermere is this delightful, stone-built barn conversion, Lowfold Barn. Considered to be one of the oldest buildings in Ambleside, the cottage has been created from a former Lakeland barn notable for its ancient stonework, now offering a spacious holiday base for families or a group of couples wishing to stay together. You are welcomed into the open-plan dining hall where everyone can discuss the holiday plans whilst the chef amongst the group can rustle up a feast in the stylish, oak breakfast kitchen, equipped with utensils, crockery and a range of appliances for your stay. Two steps up from the dining area is the sitting room, finished in a contemporary style with exposed beams and ample seating, here you can look forward to unwinding after a busy day exploring the delights of the Lake District. There are four bedrooms at this Ambleside cottage, each of which have furnished in mostly oak to reflect the use of natural woods in the window frames and doors. Those with limited mobility will find a king-size bedroom and shower room on the group floor, whilst upstairs plays host to three further bedrooms, including the master king-size double with en-suite shower, a twin room and a single bedded which are complemented by the sleek family bathroom. During the summer months, look forward to spending time within the patio garden by settling down on the chairs and soaking up the sun, perhaps with your favourite beverage in hand. From the door there are several scenic walks towards Wansfell and Loughrigg Fell which offers unbeatable views over Ambleside, or why not take a short stroll down to the head of Lake Windermere and enjoy a cruise across the water, giving you chance to take the scenery from a different angle? Ambleside has a large number of shops from quirky gift shops to supermarkets, as well as many quality bars and restaurants waiting to welcome you after a day of sightseeing. Head to Bowness-on-Windermere and take a tour of the World of Beatrix Potter or visit Lakeside and marvel at underwater species at the Aquarium, both of which are sure to be popular choices with children. Ideally placed for seeing all the stunning scenery of Ambleside and the Lake District, Lowfold Barn has all the reasons to keep you returning each year.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
